Derek sat on the side of her bed in a chair holding her hand when Ray came in.

"Meredith are you ready to begin?"

"Do chemo patients usually say yes?" She half giggled

"No I suppose not" he chuckled

"But I am ready" she nodded

"Ok, usually with chemo patients they experience lots of side effects including nausea,vomiting,diarrhea,hair loss,loss of appetite,fatigue,fever, and mouth sores. They usually like to tough it out which leads to more complications, so if you experience any of these symptoms please let me or my assistant know and we will give you anti nausea pills for the nausea side effect. And the rest there'll be something we would be able to do. "

"I'll be watching her she won't be toughing anything out" Derek said gently squeezing her hand

"Good that's good"

Ray walked over to her with iv bag and inserted it into her arm. Meredith winced and dug her nails into dereks palm. He acted as though it didn't hurt though, because what she was going through? Who was he to complain especially while her chemo was being inserted into her arm.

Ray hung the iv around the pole with her fluids.

"Let me know if you experience anything I'll be back to check on you in an hour" he said walking out of the room

"How do you feel Mer?"

"Pukey"

"Pukey?"

"Pukey" she nodded

"Your always making up words" he laughed

"Their understandable words that you understand " she shrugged

"Mmm that's true "

"Kiss?"

He leaned in and kiss her and pulled back and smiled.

"You won't be wanting to do that for awhile"

"Why's that?" He said cocking his head

"Pukey" she giggled

"I'll always want to kiss you"

"Your lying"

"I might be" he chuckled

"Ass" she said hitting his arm

Derek got into bed with her and held onto her as his body shook.

"Der?" She asked massaging his scalp

No response.

"Derek what's wrong" she asked concerned

"You your sick ...you have leukemia how the hell does that happen?" He asked crying

"I don't know Derek the universe dislikes me I think"

"I can't lose you. I won't survive "

"Your not going to lose me Derek I'm here I'm right here and I'm ok"

Derek looked up at her and she smiled at him. She wiped the tears from his eyes and grabbed his hand.

"I'm sorry I broke down like that. I'm supposed to be your rock I'm so-"

"I want to see your emotions Derek. You don't have to be the big strong guy who pretends nothings wrong."

"I won't hide from you anymore " he said as his hand cupped the side of her face

"Good"

He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her forehead

"Mm I love you"he said
