Dereks Pov, Manhattan New York
She had called and I didn't pick up.
This happened some days ago but it haunts me. I couldn't I couldn't pick up and ask her how she was doing because I was happy. Here in Manhattan where I grew up I was happy. And I couldn't answer her and tell her that.
But I also couldn't hear the sadness in her voice because I left. I loved Meredith. Meredith is my favorite person but I left her, and basically told her it wait for me. I'm a terrible person I know.
I rented an apartment for my time being and I learned a lot. I realized how I manipulated her, and how I went from being her loving boyfriend to her overbearing mean boyfriend. I didn't understand her, I suffocated her.. and I'm just now realizing that.
I don't deserve Meredith, I don't but she wants me and I can't say no to her.
I do wonder how she's doing but I can't ask her.
I haven't done anything interesting besides talk to a therapist. I did start drinking tea and meditating. Hopefully if she'll have me we can do a team medication session or something.
I picked up on my guitar again, it's fun and it's comforting. I've never been more at peace.
Derek got up and he looked out the window. His apartment was beautiful, the sunsets and sunrises were to die for which is what he missed most about his hometown. He needed to see his mother today. It'd been to long, they missed each other despite how overbearing she was.
Derek took a shower and he took a deep inhale and reminisced on the good times he and Meredith had shared. Damn it he was crying.
He sniffled and wiped his eyes. He missed her, he's never done anything so difficult in his life.
But they needed this.. some space as much as their suffering right now the perfect house he would build them and two kids was what he was looking at. Derek finished his shower and put on blue jeans and a white t-shirt with a cashmere sweatshirt.
He put on his shoes and got into his car to see his mom.
After some driving he arrived at her front her door and he knocked.
"Nancy please behave, hold on someone's at the door " he heard his mom say
"Hello what can- Derek?"
"Hey ma" he smiled
Mrs.Shepherd slapped her son and then brought him in for a hug
"Ow ma" he said rubbing his cheek
"Shut up, you move across the world and don't call, don't text and then you just show up?"
"Life has been hectic I've been occupied I'm sorry" he said guiltily, he was sorry he felt bad. Seems to be a new theme nowadays
"What have you been busy with?" She sniffled pulling away from the hug
"I met the love of my life, we got engaged and then I ruined it."
"You met the love of your life?"
"I did her name is Meredith, Meredith Grey I love her"
"What do you mean you ruined it dear?"
"I wasn't good enough for her ma I don't want to talk here can I come in please?"
"Of course" she said moving to the side
He walked in and was greeted by his furious but happy sisters
"Kathleen-"
"Don't Kathleen me you've been gone forever where were you!" She yelled
"I thought I was your favorite sister" Amelia shook her head
"Of course you did, your known for thinking aren't you baby sister?" Nancy snarked
"Can you guys stop it" Lizzie said rubbing her eyes
"Hey guys" Derek smiled uncomfortably
"Derek" Kathleen said
"I'm sorry ok? I haven't been doing nothing, I met someone and then I ruined her and I ruined myself and I've just been busy. I came here because with miss you guys and I'm sorry I'm a terrible brother ok? Please don't hate me"
"We don't hate you jackass just pick up the phone" Nancy said wrapping her arms around him
"We missed you too derbear" Amelia smiled
"There's food cooking go make yourself comfortable " Mrs shepherd said walking to the kitchen
"Derek" Amelia said grabbing his arm and leading him to the couch.
"Tell me about her, the girl you ruined"
"Her name is Meredith, the way we met it wasn't romance she was .. she was abused and she wanted to take her life. She showed up in my OR"
"I basically became her friend because she didn't have anyone and she let me in, she let me love her and she loved me back. It was special but then we started fighting I became controlling and it blew up" he sighed
"So it was both your faults?"
"No it .. it wasn't her I can't blame her it was me. I made the first mistake because truth be told I saw her when she leaned in and I didn't move until after her lips made contact with me. I still don't know why"
"YOU KISSED AN-"
"Amelia keep it down" he hissed
"Ok ok sorry"
"You kissed another girl??" She said in a hushed whisper
"No no she kissed me-"
"You said you didn't move-"
"I know what I said" he cut her off
"I know what I said but I didn't kiss her"
"Ok.. so what did you come here to find?"
"Answers, I found some I realized where I went wrong but I don't think I've found enough answers to face her, that and well she deserves better then me. I can't hurt her anymore I can't"
"Derek.. from what your saying she loves you, I don't think she'd want to be with anyone but you"
"You don't even know her" she smiled
"I know enough" she smiled back
"This is why your my favorite" she said giving her a hug and kissing her forehead
"Yeah yeah beak it up foods ready" Nancy said
Amelia and Derek got up and they walked to the table to eat.
