Chapter 51

It had been two days and it was time to wake Meredith up.

Bailey came in and she walked the doctors through the process. She said it was to mentally prepare them even though they already knew what she was doing and why.

She reversed her sedative and said it may take a minute or an hour or a day this type of stuff was random so they'd have to wait.

They watched Bailey carefully and when she finished they sat down again.

"Why didn't you guys call me sooner?" Derek asked

"We were processing.. it's- your not the only one who loves her Derek we were all processing" George said

"Your right I'm sorry for asking"

"No it's fine you have a right to ask your her proxy"

"Hmm" he smiled to himself.

He remembered the day they talked about it and when she went to get it changed.

"Derek!" She called from their stairs

"Yeah?" He said from the couch

"What would you do if I died?" She said sitting down besides him

"Thats a very morbid question mer " he chuckled slightly

"I wanted to set the tone for what I wanted to ask next.." she said shifting uncomfortably

"Meredith what...?

"I want you to be my proxy " she blurted

"Oh" he breathed. He was happy entirely happy that she trusted him this much. He wanted her to be his proxy but he didn't want to say anything about it yet this was her moment. She was branching out and becoming more comfortable in her own skin. He was proud.

"You don't like the idea" she said with a sad face

"I'm sorry I'm moving too fast and I just asked you to move in with me and-"

"Meredith " he cut her off

"Huh?" She asked looking down at the floor

He moved closer to her on the couch and wrapped his arms around her. He rested his chin on top of her head and took in her flowery scent.

"Meredith I would love nothing more then to be your proxy. " he said kissing her head

"Oh I thought you didn't.. you just said oh"

"I said oh because I wasn't expecting that. I'm happy Meredith I'm so happy" he said tightening his grip

"Derek.." she said pulling back from the hug.

He looked at her with confusion in his eyes. She placed her hands on the side of her face and gave him a kiss.

"Thank you" she smiled

"Your welcome" he smiled back

He smiled inwardly at the reminder until he remembered where he was and why he was even talking about proxies.

He stopped smiling and he looked at her bed. He was so sad. This.. this is so wrong.

But he heard something.

"O...ouch" he heard coming from her bed

Meredith his sweet Meredith she was waking up.
