I wake up the next morning and get ready for school along with Sana.
"Yo Kate, you doing alright? You look like you haven't slept all day," She remarks.
"It's just that something really weird happened the night before." I began. "You remember how Naroi told us about curses? Well I think I experienced one."
Her eyes grew wide with concern as she was putting on her jacket.
"Now I wasn't the one who was cursed. It was Cheryl actually, and a few others. But it was really weird and creepy. They were like statues in a way, until they all started coming towards me. Legit scared the crap out of me."
"Sounds terrifying. But what happened afterwards?"
"I think Violet saved me," I shrugged. "She said she wanted to talk to me about telling you not to make a wish or something like that. I don't know."
"I thought she said she didn't care."
"She doesn't, I mean, I don't think she does."
"Never mind that, we should get going."We both put on our boots and left our dorm. On the way out of the building we caught Gretchen waving at us.
"Hey Gretchen, what's up?"
"I just wanted to stop by and say hello for one thing, but more importantly I wanted to ask you two if you can meet me at my place right after school. It's okay if you can't, but I have something very important that I need to share."
I look at Sana and we both shrug.
"We can make it," I reply.
She smiles and gives a single nod.
"Great, see you two then!"She returns to her building as we head to school.
Seniors start school about 15 minutes later than other students. If we began at the same time, we would've walked to school together. Well, at least I think we would've.
We got to class and took out our supplies for taking notes.
Cheryl was in school today, but she didn't seem like herself. She had to go to the bathroom a couple of times cause her stomach was upsetting her. This kept repeating every hour or so until the teacher made her go to the nurse. I guess that curse had an after effect on those people.
Just like yesterday, Violet was missing. I never usually see that girl, but when I do it's usually to tell me about not becoming a magica.
I still don't understand what her deal is with that. Everytime I try asking her 'why?' she either ignores me or tells me I wouldn't understand. Maybe I would understand if she actually told me.
School finished and the teacher sent us home reminding us to study for our trigonometry test next week."Was Cheryl ok?" Sana asked me as we walked towards Gretchen's. "I mean she didn't seem like she was all there."
"I think the curse just really affected her, I bet she'll get better soon though, or at least I hope she does."We make it to Gretchen's apartment and knock on the door. She opens it with a warming smile and allows us in.
"So, why are we here? What did you want to tell us?" I ask.
She walks over to her couch and gestures for us to sit down.
"I was thinking about our conversation last time, Kate. About how I told you that magicae don't usually work together. That was until I met you two, I know we've just met but you girls seem like really nice people that wouldn't do this kind of thing for their own benefit."
"woah, woah, woah," I began. "I told you before that this kind job is too much pressure for me. The only reason I'm following along is so that I feel a little less scared when I get trapped in a latitat since there's a magica with me"
Gretchen smiles and shakes her head.
"Kate, I'm not forcing you to become one," She reassures me. "I was just thinking it would be nice for all three of us to be magicae. If we're a team then we have a better chance of winning, and we would have nothing to be afraid of. But I still respect your choice."
"No, no," I say. "You make a good point, but even if I did join, what are we supposed to do about the luctus threciuses? I mean you only get one after each fight. Correct?"
"We could alternate. I get one, then you, then Sana, and so on. Or we could give the luctus threcius to whoever did the most fighting or whoever is low on magic power."
"That doesn't sound like a bad idea," Sana comments.
"You're right," I add. "It doesn't, but that still doesn't make me want to become a magica."
Sana looks at me and nods her head.
"Yeah, I kind of agree."
"Hey," Gretchen sighs. "I know the both of you might still be a little nervous about this. So how about I take you two on more fighting adventures, I'll even tell you a little about my past and we can all get to know each other a little more."
