I wake with a start, worried I'm going to be late for the wedding. My eyes sweep around the room, landing on the alarm clock. It's only four-thirty in the morning. I don't have to be up for a few more hours. My fingers reach, searching the opposite side of the bed for Tobias, but he isn't there. The mattress is still slightly warm. He hasn't been up long. Rolling from the bed, I walk downstairs in search of him. Tobias is sitting at the kitchen table, a coffee cup in his hand, his eyes staring out the dark window. His back is toward me.
Silently, I tiptoe behind, placing a hand on his shoulder. He jumps in his seat. I whisper, "Tobias, it's only me." Sarcastically, he replies, "I have gathered as much," rolling his eyes. Blowing out a breath, I ask, "Is something the matter? Why are you grumpy already?" He picks my hand up and brings it to his lips, murmuring, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to take it out on you." Gently, I prod, "Do you want to speak about whatever is bothering you?" Tobias twists in his seat, his arms envelop me while saying, "Not really," pulling me toward him. I sit on his lap, and we sit in silence for several moments.
I watch the swirls of dark liquid in his coffee mug. His rough voice breaks the silence in my ear when he mutters, "I had bad dreams tonight, Tris. That's why I'm up early. I hope I didn't wake you. You should go back to bed." Confidently, I reply, "No, I'm going to sit here with you. I'm not going to leave you." A small smile tugs at my lips while I stare into his eyes. Tobias presses his lips against my forehead. I lean my head against his chest to listen to the steady beat of his heart. The sound is relaxing, and it helps me know he's okay. Tobias goes back to his thoughts, holding me tightly in his arms.
Suddenly, his heartbeat increases. Tilting my head, I ask, "Tobias, is everything okay?" When Tobias's heart races, he is nervous about something. A smirk pulls at his lips, answering, "Yeah, I was thinking." Quipping an eyebrow, I ask, "About what?" Feeling intrigued by his statement. Into my ear, he whispers, "About marrying you." My cheeks burn from his words. Tobias becomes silent again, becoming lost in his mind. At some point, I fall asleep, and when I awake, I'm still on Tobias's lap. The sun is beginning to peek through the blinds. He catches my blinking eyes and smiles, "I suppose it's time for you to get up now. I will make breakfast."
Automatically, a pout falls onto my lips at his words. I don't want to move from his warm embrace. I pout, "I guess." Tobias grins, kissing my pouting lips. Against them, he says, "Up." He attempts to push me, but I snuggle further into his lap, smiling, "Five more minutes. You are warm and comfortable." Tobias laughs, "We need to have breakfast. You need to be at Christina's house in half an hour, and my legs fell asleep several hours ago. I didn't move you because you looked so peaceful. I didn't have the heart to move you." I giggle, "Well, I guess I will move off of you. That way, you can get your feeling in your legs back." Once I'm off Tobias's lap, he quickly makes breakfast while I get ready for Christina's house to get ready for the wedding.
I can't believe today is the day Christina and Will are getting married. I'm excited for them. Christina planned an afternoon rose garden ceremony for their wedding. However, I still have to be at her house early for hair and makeup. Christina gives direct orders to the hairstylist on how my hair is to be done, partly up with curls throughout. Once I'm dressed in my long, light pink dress, I help Christina into her tea-length wedding dress. "Are you ready to see yourself?" I ask, winking. She giggles while I uncover a large mirror. I pick up my bouquet of white flowers, leaving her standing before the mirror, admiring herself. Christina looks beautiful with her hair pinned into a bun and wedding dress. Down the hallway, my eyes land on Will. He is dressed in a white suit and black tie, pacing nervously. Tobias attempts to calm him. He has on his matching pink necktie, and he looks handsome.
The light music begins to play. Will disappears from view with Tobias following. He turns, Tobias's eyes find mine, winking before walking through a pair of double doors leading outside to the ceremony. When it's my turn to begin to walk down the short walkway, my stomach is full of butterflies. I can only imagine what it will feel like when Tobias is waiting for me at the end of an aisle. My eyes find Tobias in the crowd when I reach the end of the path in his seat. He mouths, "You look beautiful." Heat burns my cheeks at his mouthed words. I turn my attention to Christina walking down the aisle with her father. When Christina's mother sees her, she cries.
