Tobias and I, quickly work to unpack and put away all of the things I brought with me from the old apartment that I shared with Chris. As I place the finishing touches on my room, I stand in the doorway, loving the way, my room looks. My phone vibrates in my pocket, I pull it out, to see a message from Chris, it read: Hey! I got a text from Uriah, and after the semester is over, we are all going to celebrate by going to the Civil Disobedience Club.
Tris: That sounds like fun! I will discuss it with Four, and see if he wants to go with me.
Chris: You can always ditch him if he doesn't want to go with us. ;)
Tris: Are we talking about the same Four here? I wouldn't dare ditch him. I want to stay on his good side, thank you.
Chris: Yeah. Yeah. I know he can be intimidating! I have seen him in the OR, you know. Haha.
Chris and I text for a while longer, then I meander out to the kitchen to make dinner for Tobias and me, I haven't seen him in several hours, figuring he must be in his bedroom, I decide to leave him alone for the time being, and figure out what to make for dinner. Searching the cabinets and the refrigerator for the correct ingredients, I choose to make steak, baked potatoes, broccoli, and brownies for dessert. The house smells like a bakery by the time I am done, figuring the smell would draw Tobias out of where ever he is hiding. However, he never makes an appearance. I start looking for him around the house, that is when I realize, the house is larger than I thought. Walking up the stairs, I hear a piano playing with a male voice singing softly, unable to control my curiosity, I peek through the open door to see Tobias, his eyes closed, headphones on, playing the piano, singing softly. I mentally snap a picture, wanting to memorize him in this moment. I stand in the doorway admiring him, he always amazes me, whenever I think I know everything there is to know about this man, I learn something new. Slowly, I back away from the room, but I am caught by Tobias, who opens his eyes, he asks, "Were you spying on me?"
"No, I heard something, and I was looking for you to let you know dinner is done. Why didn't you ever tell me that you could sing and play the piano?" I ask, trying to backpedal, hoping he isn't angry, I was spying on him. He smiles a shy smile as he says, "I don't play very well, nor do I sing well."
"You are kidding me, right? That was amazing from what I heard!" I smile at him as I take in the appearance of the room. There are several instruments scattered around the room, an acoustic guitar, an electric guitar, a bass, a drum set, and the piano sits in the middle of the room. I ask with curiosity lacing my voice, "Do you play all of these instruments?"
"Yeah, that is what I do with my free time when I'm not with you or at the hospital." He says as he stands up, pushing the bench in. He walks over to me, wrapping his arms around me, kissing the top of my head. He continues, "Let's go eat. I am famished." I reply, jokingly, "You are always hungry."
Tobias shakes his head, as he leads me down the stairs, we eat together, enjoying each other's company. During dinner, I notice Tobias playing with his hands, I ask, "Hey, what's the matter?" Wondering if something is up with him. He answers, "Nothing, why?" I glance at his hands that he continues to fiddle with them, as I reply, "No reason, it's just you are playing with your hands, usually, that means you are nervous about something."
Tobias lets out a breath as he says, "You know me too well. I am nervous. I made an appointment today with my psychiatrist. It is for Monday, will you go with me?"
"I thought your appointment with your doctor wasn't for a few more weeks?" I ask, trying to remember our last conversation of when he mentioned going to the doctor next. He shrugs his shoulders, as he says, "It was, but I called to changed it, because of what happened yesterday." I try to give him an encouraging smile, as I say, "Of course, I will go with you, to your appointment, Tobias. I also, have something I would like to discuss with you." Tobias glances at me, raising an eyebrow as he says, "Shoot for it."
"Chris texted me earlier, she said a bunch of people are making plans for the end of the semester to go to the Civil Disobedience Club. She wanted to know if we were in."
"Sure, sounds like fun," Tobias says, surprising me. Since agreeing to go with Tobias to his doctor's appointment he seems less tense. He reaches for my hand across the table, he asks, "Do you want to watch a movie or something tonight? What do you want to do tomorrow?"
I shrug my shoulder, having no idea what to do tomorrow. "Let's watch TV, maybe something will catch our attention. As for tomorrow, I was thinking of having a lazy day. I need to start figuring out a topic for my paper, it is due in a few weeks, and I need to start working on it soon.
Tobias smirks, "I have an idea for your paper."
I smile, asking, "And what would that be?"
"Write a paper on why your boyfriend is such a head case." He laughs, as I try to be serious, I say, "That is not funny. You are not a head case." Tobias shakes his head, as he gets up from the table, he stands by me, leaning down, he whispers into my ear, as he holds out his hand to me, "Fine, I'm not a head case, but only because you say so. Will you come, watch some TV with me?"
"Sounds good to me," I whisper, as I grab ahold of his hand. Tobias and I cuddle on the couch that night, watching pointless TV. At the end of the night, Tobias gives me a goodnight kiss at my bedroom door, he seems off to me. My mind wondering, if I'm not catching something with Tobias. I try to rationalize, maybe he is still recovering from his flashback he had the other day as I try to go to sleep, I can't seem to get comfortable. I toss and turn in the bed. I can't stop the bad feeling in my stomach. I feel like something horrible is about to happen. My mind won't stop racing as I think about everything that has occurred these past few days. Needing to escape the room, I give up on sleep for the night and go out to the couch to lay down on it to think. Eventually, I pass out cold from exhaustion.
