For the next week Tommy trained furiously for the duel with Dream. Nessa, being the best archer in L'Manburg, spent almost all day every day helping him. The two of them spent hours doing target practice in the woods outside L'Manburg. No one slept much the whole week.

Then, all too soon, it was the day of the duel. The members of L'Manburg woke up right before dawn and went outside to wait for Dream. Nessa and Tommy paced anxiously up and down the length of the wall. Nessa drilled Tommy on archery tips, talking way too fast due to nerves. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Dream arrived.

Nessa gave Tommy a quick hug before he walked over to Wilbur to get his bow. She sat down, looking like she was thinking, when really she was listening to Wilbur and Tommy's conversation. As Wilbur handed Tommy the bow, she heard the blonde boy sigh. "Do I shoot him Will, or do I aim for the skies?" Wilbur placed his hands on Tommy's shoulders and looked him in the eyes. "Tommy, I want you to do whatever your heart says you should do. Just meet him face to face."

Tommy nodded. He had a serious look on his face, but Nessa could tell that he was terrified. Tommy and Wilbur walked over to the dueling ground, and Nessa joined Tubbo and Fundy on the sidelines to watch.

Tommy stood in front of Dream, and Wilbur stood next to them. He went over the rules. "I will count to ten. With each number I say, you are each going to take a pace away from each other. When I reach ten, you will turn around, draw your bows, and fire. Whoever hits the other first wins the duel. Understood?" Tommy and Dream nodded and turned so that their backs were facing each other. Wilbur began to count.

"One. Two. Three."

Dream and Tommy began to take steps away from each other. Nessa grabbed on to Tubbo and Fundy's hands. None of them dared to breathe.

"Four. Five. Six."

Dream and Tommy pulled their arrows out of their quivers and knocked them.

"Seven. Eight. Nine."

Nessa inhaled deeply. These next few seconds would decide the fate of all of them. Either they would get independence, or all of this fighting will have been for nothing.

"Ten paces fire!"

Tommy and Dream turned around and drew their bowstrings. No one made a sound as they let the arrows fly. Then, Nessa's horror, she watched as Tommy's arrow went just to the side of Dream, and Dream's arrow hit Tommy in the chest.

"NO!"

TOMMY POV:

I felt a stabbing pain in my chest as I heard Nessa's voice cry "NO!" I looked down and saw that Dream's arrow had hit me.

So this was it. My big mouth had gotten me in trouble, and now I'd lost our independence. I'd let everyone down. All this war, all this death, had been for nothing.

I felt my legs give out and I fell to the ground. I closed my eyes briefly, and when I opened them, I saw Nessa and Tubbo standing next to me. Tubbo was crouching down, looking worried, and Nessa had both hands covering her mouth, tears falling down her face.

"I'm sorry." I said quietly. Then everything faded to black.

Welp. I just overly dramaticized a teenager dying to a green blob man. What is happening to my life.
