Chapter 29: Shifting

"Somehow, you looked even more like a cat than you normally do."

Nessa looked startled and confused. "Wait, what? What do you mean?" Tubbo nodded. "Yeah. i mean, you always have your tail, but when you got really mad back there, you got cat ears and eyes too." (Definitely not basing my oc off of Catra from She-ra he he) Nessa shook her head. "That can't be what happened. It doesn't make sense!" she said. "Well, it happened." Tubbo responded. "Do you have any idea how you did it?" Nessa thought for a moment. "I don't. Everyone was yelling, and it was so loud, and then I panicked, and then I got angry. So I followed my instincts, and they told me to climb up to the ceiling and yell at everyone. But apparently one of those things made me... What would you call it? I feel like shapeshifting isn't quite the right word." Tubbo shrugged. The two walked in silence for a while before Nessa spoke again. "I want to figure out how I did it." She turned to her brother. "Can you help?" Tubbo smiled and nodded. "Sure! I'll try to convince Tommy to help too. Let's meet in your office tonight."

That night, the three children gathered in Nessa's office. "Okay." said Nessa. "We need to figure out what triggers whatever the hell happened in the courthouse. How do we do that?" Tommy spoke up. "We could, like, make a list of things to try." Nessa looked at him in mock amazement. "Wow, you actually had a helpful idea for once!" Tommy glared at her. "Shut up, catgirl." Nessa threw a pencil at him. "Never call me a catgirl again." Tommy just laughed. "Whatever you say, catgirl." Nessa groaned before getting back on topic. "A list seems like it would be a good start. What should we put on it?" The three ended up with about ten things on their list. Then they went to test them out. the first few didn't work. But once they got to #6, loud noises, they started to make progress. Someone started an argument, which ended up with a bunch of people yelling. Nessa covered her ears to try to block out all the noise, but it didn't work. She started to panic a little, and when she looked back up at her brothers, she had shifted into her cat form. Everyone shut up, and pretty soon she went back to normal. Tubbo put a check mark next to "Loud noises" on the list. "We found something that triggers it! That's progress!" Nessa nodded, still looking a little shaken. "Yep. Now please never be that loud again." Tommy laughed a little bit and nodded. They found out that fear and anger triggered it, which explained what had happened in the courthouse. Eventually they only had one left, and it was the hardest one of all. They wanted to see what would happen if Nessa saw people threatened. the issue was that, surprisingly, there weren't any wars going on right now. Eventually, after a lot of arguing, Tommy and Tubbo decided to swordfight. Tommy's idea, quite obviously. That kid REALLY likes violence. After a lot of swearing and some shouting, Tommy was winning. He backed Tubbo into a corner of the training area, and that's when Nessa's instincts kicked in. She knew that no one would actually get hurt, but that didn't stop the adrenaline. As she shifted into her cat form, she ran in front of Tubbo. "Stop." she shouted at Tommy. Tommy dropped his sword. "Well, we made it through the list! You can calm down now." he said, smiling. Nessa nodded, shifting back to her normal form now that she was calmer. Tubbo just stared. "Remind me to never get on your bad side." he said, causing Tommy and Nessa to burst out laughing.

Sorry for the shit chapter. I couldn't really figure out how to write this concept, so here we are. Also, "Did you get a whoppa" is taking over TikTok. I swear, Jack Manifold fans are all clinically insane...
