This chapter contains death. It's throughout the whole chapter, so there will be no warning but I will put a summary at the end. All of it is pretty trigger-y so the summary is pretty short despite the chapter being over 3,000 words.
Chapter 28
Eijirou paced the waiting room, tears running down his cheeks. He'd never felt more terrified. He wasn't allowed in the ambulance that took Katsuki to the hospital. It was too crowded with the amount of EMTs needed to just keep his heart pumping. He could've easily died at any point in that ride, and Eijirou wouldn't've known.
He had to drive there himself. He could barely see with out stressed he was, so he was almost surprised when he actually made it to the hospital without crashing. But, the man at the front desk informed him he'd have to wait a while for any information. He'd been there for nearly three hours with no word from the doctor.
"The family of Katsuki Kirishima?" the doctor called.
Eijirou's head snapped toward him and he was quickly scrambling over to the doctor, nearly tripping over his own feet. He held onto the wall to steady himself. "Is he going to be okay?" he asked frantically.
"Who are you to Mr. Kirishima?" she asked.
"His husband. I'm- I'm his husband."
She sighed. "Come with me," she said, motioning for him to follow her down a hallway. He did as she said. Once they were in a quiet, private space, she instructed him to sit in a seat in front of one of the rooms. He did so. She took a deep breath, "Your husband.. is alive-"
Eijirou let out a sob of relief, wiping his cheeks as tears left his eyes. He smiled. "Oh, thank goodness-"
"But," she said, "He's.. not going to make it through the night."
Eijirou's face fell. His sobs became louder and he stopped bothering to wipe his tears. He hugged his arms around his waist, curling in on himself.
"I'm so sorry," she said. She crouched in front of him and placed her hand on his knee, "He'll likely be awake soon... you should savor his last few hours..." she nodded her head to the room in front of them, "He's in there."
Eijirou looked up at the door and wiped away a few tears. "I- can go.. in?" he asked, brokenly.
"Of course."
He sniffled. "Thank you..."
"Press the Button on the bed if you need me," she said, standing and walking out of the hall.
He stood and walked to the door, putting his hand on the handle but not opening it. He huffed and wiped a few tears. He twisted the handle and walked in, despite his anxiety over that he was going to see.
He didn't see anything, actually. Just Katsuki. He was in a hospital gown, but had the blankets pulled up past his chest. His arms were above the blankets, an IV attached to his arm, providing him with blood. His face was pale and bruised, but not in a way that made him any less beautiful. His lips were slightly stained red, but they'd cleaned him pretty well they it looked like that was his normal color.
Eijirou knew otherwise.
He closed the door behind him, walking over to his husband. He sank into a chair next to a bed. Grabbing his hand, Eijirou sighed softly.
"I don't know what I'm gonna do without you, Katsuki... I can't raise the kids alone..." he leaned forward and ran his free hand up and down his cheek, "Fuck... I'm gonna miss you... I'm really gonna miss you.." He broke down into violent sobs, laying his head down in the bed.
