This chapter contains brief mentions of divorce. It's so brief and not in detail that I'm only going to put a warning, and not a summary because I don't think I can summarize it in a way that's different than the actual text. There also won't be a part that shows when it is over, because it is at the very end.

Chapter 30

"Fuck..." Katsuki sighed, staring at himself in the mirror. He pushed his hair back so he could look at his whole face. "Why did... dammit..." He sighed again.

He heard the front door close from downstairs and quickly dropped his hand from his head. He took a steadying deep breath and scrubbed a hand over his eyes. He could feel the sweat pooling in the crevices in his hand. A lump formed in his throat and only then did tears barely prick his eyes.

"Hey, honey, we're home!" Eijirou called from downstairs.

Katsuki cleared his throat. He tried to talk. He failed to talk. The lump in his throat wouldn't go away. He put a hand to his throat, grimacing as he wrapped it around his neck, gently massaging the skin with his fingertips. Sweat smeared across his skin. He coughed and shook his head, dropping his hand to instead toy with his pockets. He couldn't find it in himself to answer his husband, so instead he walked out of the bathroom to their connected bedroom. He quickly changed into something comfortable and got in bed, pretending to be asleep. It might've been just past noon, but he was a grown injured man and could sleep whenever he damn well pleased.

He heard footsteps coming up the stairs. "Baby?" Eijirou called out. Katsuki didn't respond. He couldn't. He tensed when the door opened and light flooded in from the hallway. "Hey, lemon bear, are you in here? The kids and I are home."

Katsuki bit his lip and squeezed his eyes shut tightly, keeping himself tense. He didn't want to talk to or even hear Eijirou at the moment. He couldn't.

"Katsuki, are you awake under there?" he asked. He got closer. A lot closer. The edge of the bed sank down as he sat there, his hand moving to gently stroke Katsuki's shoulder.

Katsuki rolled onto his back and opened his eyes to squint up at the smiling man. Eijirou's smile grew when he saw the sliver of red eyes. Katsuki closed them again, not being able to handle looking at him. He nodded.

"Were you laying here the whole time we were gone? This is where I left you.."

Katsuki nodded again.

"Baby, you've been laying here a while. Shouldn't you get up? Do your legs hurt?"

Katsuki shook his head.

Eijirou furrowed his eyebrows. "Can you speak to me?"

Katsuki stilled. He ran his tongue over the roof of his mouth, wetting it. He grunted softly. "Hi..." he said, his voice scratchy and tense.

Though Katsuki couldn't see it, Eijirou smiled wider. He leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to Katsuki's Adam's apple. He flinched, bringing his head down to cover his neck, his chin hitting Eijirou's forehead hard. Eijirou laughed.

"Ah, sorry, that probably tickled, huh?"

Katsuki just sat still.

Eijirou sighed. "The girls bought a puzzle to do with you. I haven't seen you leave this bed all day, babe, you should go down and do it with them."

Katsuki contemplated it. It sounded fun. He wanted to be around his kids. He knew he did, but somehow... he knew he wouldn't be able to hold it together around kids.

Katsuki sighed and swallowed some spit. "I have a migraine," he lied in a choked up voice, "I can't be around their loud voices or the lights.. I just need to stay up here by myself for a bit."
