Mina Ashido x gender-neutral! Reader///coming out

(Also (b/n) is birth name while (y/n) is your name/your chosen name. Also sorry it's so short?)

Today is the day I am going to come out to my dads as gender neutral. 

I don't really think they'll mind so much; they're always really nice to their trans students and respect their pronouns; I'm just afraid they might not be as welcoming of having a gender non-conforming kid of their own.

My girlfriend Mina thinks it'll be okay.

"You're worrying too much, babe! Relax, I'll be right here with you." She squeezes my hand comfortingly as we wait for my dads to come home; they know Mina and I are dating but they trust us alone in the apartment.

"I know. It's probably not a big deal but...I just can't help but wonder, what if it is?"

"If it does end up bothering them then you'll just have to help them understand. The biggest thing is being able to work with them on understanding how you're feeling."

I nod. "I know you're right. I'm just so nervous!"

It was then that the door to our apartment opened, allowing for my dads, whom I had dubbed cat dad and dad mic, to enter. "(B/n) we're home!" Shouted Dad Mic.

I tense up hearing my birth name, but Mina gently squeezes my hand. "It's okay, you're going to do great! Now get out there!"

She leads me to the kitchen where my dads are, not letting go of my hand the whole time. It feels so nice, just to feel her hand in mine, to know she supports me.

"Uh, hey! Dad Mic, Cat Dad!"

Cat Dad sighs. "I told you not to call me that, (b/n). Just dad is fine..."

"Well, do you guys have a minute? I've kind of got to talk to you about something." They exchanged a look before dad mic said, "Sure thing, kiddo! What's going on?"

I looked over at Mina, who gave me a reassuring smile. Turning back to my fathers I said, "Well. The thing is, I'm gender neutral. Meaning, I don't really feel masculine or feminine, and I'd like it if you'd use they/them pronouns when you talk about me? I understand if that's hard for you to take in all at once but-"

"(B/n), is that all you were worried about?" asked Cat Dad. "Did you really think we would be upset about this?"

I felt my jaw drop. "So you..you really don't mind?"

"What, that we have an awesome kid? No, of course not!" shouted Dad Mic. 

"Okay! Great! Uh, and I was hoping I could try the name (y/n)?"

They smiled at me. "That's a nice name, (y/n)," said Cat Dad.

"Now, did you kids eat supper yet?" asked Dad Mic. 

I smiled, glad things were so normal after coming out. "I'd like some soba."

"Natto and okra, please!" Mina added. 

"Those are your favorite..." I said with a smile.

"Of course! But so are you!"

I grinned. "That's sweet, Mina..."

She smiled back and poked my nose. "C'mon, you can tell me about that new manga you've been reading while your dad cooks. Thanks for cooking for us, by the way!"

Dad Mic smiled at us. "Of course, that's what dads are for!"

I was so lucky to have such awesome dads and an even more awesome girlfriend.
