(Probably the first thing I've written first person..idk 🤷♂️)
Reader's POV
I keep my steps light as I creep into the camp. I spotted these kids from my normal perch in the trees, and they look interesting. And by interesting I mean they look like they'd be easy to steal from. They're all heavy sleepers, the water tribe boy snoring loudly. I roll my eyes as I reach into the knapsack near the airbender cosplayer. I don't find much, some nuts and a couple knickknacks that won't help me much.
Damn, if I needed nuts I could've scavenged them myself; is that seriously all they have?
I go over to the water tribe girl's bag, finding more nuts and a canteen. I take her bag and continue rummaging through their supplies, finding some maps (useless to me), and finally some meat jerky in the snoring boy's bag. I've never been a fan of meat, but I can't be picky living out in the forest. A man's gotta take what he can get.
Satisfied with my haul, I tiptoe back to my hideout. I don't make it very far before I hear, "HEY! That's our stuff!" I look behind me and see the water tribe boy has woken up and is looking right at me. (I'm not going to talk about his lovely blue eyes, of course, because that's not relevant.)
"Finders keepers," I say with a shrug, continuing on my way.
The water tribe boy shakes the airbender cosplayer's shoulder to wake him up. "Aang, this guy's stealing our stuff!" The little boy wakes up and tries to make sense of what's going on. When he sees me walking away with half their supplies, I feel a blast of air knock me to the ground.
I skid across the ground with an "oof!" landing at the boys' feet.
"Who are you?" asks Aang, the airbender boy.
"Wouldn't you like to know, weather boy?" I reply with a smirk.
"How'd you know I was an airbender?"
"Oh, please. You're in an airbender cosplay, dude, it's pretty obvious."
"Cosplay?"
"Yeah. And besides, you just airbended, unless that gust of air was just a convenient wind that occurred right when you needed it?"
"You're right that I'm an airbender."
"Yeah, I know. And I think I'm also right in assuming you're the avatar, yes?"
"Wow, this guy's smart!" The water tribe boy exclaims.
I roll my eyes again. "Not really. Everyone knows about the avatar, the last airbender. It doesn't take a genius to connect the dots here."
"But now begs the question, what brings the avatar to my neck of the woods?" I ask, turning to Aang.
"We're on our way to Ba Sing Se," Aang answers.
"Huh. Well, it's a long, long way to Ba Sing Se," I say with a smile, thinking of the song.
Neither of them get the reference, unfortunately. I suppose they're not big fans of music. A shame, really.
"Where are you headed?" Aang asks.
"Oh, I'm not going anywhere. I live out here, in the forest."
"You live out here?" The water tribe boy asks.
"Yeah. I do. Is that a problem, pretty boy?"
"Pretty boy?!" He parrots.
I shrug. "Surely you already knew that."
I note with satisfaction that there's a pink tint to his cheeks as he says, "I don't know about that. And besides, I've never had a guy flirt with me..."
I smirk, walking closer to him until I'm inches away from his reddening face. "You've never had a boy flirt with you before? Hmm, I guess I'll have to show you how it's done."
I can see his gay panic, and I delight in it.
"I-I, uh..."
"I just realized, you never told me your name."
"Y-you never told us yours, either."
"I'm (y/n)."
"Well I'm Sokka."
"Sokka...very cute." I step away from him, looking around their camp. "This is a nice setup you guys have got here.. So you're going to Ba Sing Se?"
"Yep! You could come with us, you know. Ba Sing Se is supposed to be welcome to refugees and whoever wants to live there," Aang says with a smile.
I turn to Sokka, letting my eyes rove up and down his body just to get him flustered (and maybe because I just want to look at him. I mean, this is one fine man...). "You know, I might be convinced to join you," I say finally.
"Uh, Aang? I'm not sure this is the best idea-" Sokka says.
"Oh? Why not?" I ask, brow raised. "Could it be that I make you nervous?"
"Well, I-"
"I'll gladly join you," I announce, laying on Sokka's sleeping bag. "I've been kind of bored out here alone, anyway. Some company might be nice."
"Heyy, that's my sleeping bag!" Sokka whines, trying to push me off of the bag.
"Hmm, if you want to sleep so badly you can just lay here with me; I wouldn't mind.."
His eyes bug out. "Uh, I-I-uh, I mean.."
I grab his arm, pulling him down next to me. "You're so warm," I tell him. "Why don't you warm me up~"
He pushes me away. "Stop it! This is ridiculous."
"Really? I think you're enjoying this and just don't wanna admit it..."
But before we can get into that, the girls wake up.
The water tribe girl seems confused by my presence, which is understandable, while the little girl seems unbothered.
"Who's this guy?" The water tribe girl asks.
"Katara, this is (y/n)," Aang tells her. "He's going to come with us to Ba Sing Se."
"Oh. Are you sure we can trust him?"
"Sure! Sokka sure likes him," Aang says with a mischievous smile aimed at Sokka. I was surprised he'd be joking around; I thought airbenders were supposed to be super serious.
Sokka turns red again (but did he ever stop blushing to begin with?) and says, "That's not true!"
"Oh?~ Then why are you blushing, cutie?" I ask.
"I-I'm not!" He insists.
"Yeah you are!" Katara says. "Sokka, I didn't know you liked boys," she says, but she seems more amused than surprised.
"I-I don't!"
"Why are you stuttering, then?" I ask, moving closer to trail a finger up his arm. "If you don't like me, why do you seem so flustered?"
"Wouldn't you like to know, weather boy!"
I laugh. "Hey, that's my line! And besides, I'm no weather boy." I lean in to whisper in his ear, "But I could be your boy~"
He pushes me away, but his hands linger on my chest. "You've got to stop this. Aang, are we sure we want this guy as part of our team?"
The other three members of the team all murmur their affirmation. "It seems you're the only one who has a problem with me," I tell him. "What a shame, it seems you're outnumbered."
"Well, I'm the only one you're flirting with! I'd be okay if you'd stop-"
"I'll stop, if that's what you really want."
"Thank you!"
"But that doesn't stop me from enjoying the view," I add with a flirtatious look.
He stammers some more, trying to defend his straightness I guess.
Boy, is this going to be fun.
