Today was not your day.

You didn't feel like getting out of bed this morning, so you didn't.

Your daily Yakuza duties? Neglected.

Your favorite baggy sweater draped around your person, your favorite anime playing on the television, and you. You, unaware of any of it. Your hands clutched tightly at the blankets covering you, pulling them farther over your face. You couldn't stand the thought of someone looking at you, of them seeing the imperfections of your visage..

You tried to sleep, but you couldn't. You lay there, disassociated.

When you were finally able to sleep, your dreams were dark and strange.

When you woke up, you were face-to-face with concerned amber eyes.

"Gah!" You exclaimed. "Wh-What are you doing in my room, Overhaul, sir? You scared the shit out of me!"

"Sorry," he replied, looking amused. "But you never showed up for work today, and everyone was worried. I thought I'd make sure you were still alive."

You rolled over so you were facing away from him. "I wish I weren't.."

At this, his eyes widened, his concern for you deepening as he took you by the shoulder and made sure you faced him. "(Y/n). Do you really mean that?"

You shrugged, averting your eyes to the blanket you'd wrapped around your disgrace of a body. You'd never felt so disgusting, and you couldn't help but ask, "Why should you care? I'm not.." you shook your head. "I'm not worth that."

His soft look hardened to one more serious, or perhaps it'd be better described as dangerous.. "Do not say that. Ever. (Y/n), you...you deserve everything."

You laughed derisively. "Yeah, right. And I'm the number one pro hero, too!"

"I'm not in the mood for sarcasm. I need you to understand-"

"What? Maybe you need to understand," you said, shooting him a dark look. Normally, you would never speak so casually or so resentfully towards your boss, but this was not a normal day. What you needed in this moment, more than anything else in the world, was for him to understand how terrible of a person you thought you were. "You didn't have to leave your work to come check on me, Overhaul. There's no reason for that. If..if I stay here, if I never get out of this bed again, it wouldn't make a difference. Everyone's lives would go on. I'm just..not worth it."

You tried to pull the blanket to cover your face again since it had fallen off at some point. But he grabbed your wrist, firmly but not cruelly, keeping you from doing so. "Don't do this, (y/n). Don't hide from me."

"Wh-What do you mean, hide from you?"

"From everyone, I mean, not just me," he quickly corrected himself. He didn't want to make it clear just how much he cared for you, but this effort seemed to be more and more of a struggle each time he glimpsed the pain residing in your (e/c) eyes. "You can't lay here and pity yourself forever. Eventually, you're going to have to get out of bed."

"Bet."

"Bet," he countered.

You sighed, again moving to face the wall. "Whatever. I don't have to get up just because you say so."

"You do realize I'm your boss. And I'm very close to firing you."

"Do it. I don't give a fuck."
