Illumi

I wander out of the small cottage, in the middle of the night, unable to find asleep. The small room I was provided with did nothing to rid my mind of its straying thoughts.

After everything I learned today, I can't help but wonder if Mia is also aware of everything. About immortals, magic, and the Creator. According to Cyrus, her great-grandfather, she is staying with another immortal called Kyser, who is looking after her.

I wish I could be with her.

However, I know I'll be seeing her soon enough which slightly helps settle my thoughts. I'll be able to hold her, after all this time.

The looming threat of Cyrus's warning lingers in the back of my mind threateningly. The Creator will find us, and our reunion will come to an end before we know it. It is an unavoidable fact, and there is nothing I can do to stop it.

I step over a tree root, which protrudes from the ground and wander aimlessly, lost in my straying thoughts.

Just a little away, Cyrus leans against a tree, watching me quietly from a distance. He must have been observing me for quite some time. I only just noticed him now, as I near him unintentionally.

I approach him slowly, striding past the overgrown greenery on the ground. A group of fireflies collectively fly away as I step over a patch of lonely flowers, where they had gathered. I come to a halt a few meters away from the immortal who has not moved from where he leans, still observing me.

"Good evening," he murmurs, shoving his hands into the pockets of his dark overcoat. He kicks off the tree trunk, taking a few steps closer to me. I stop walking.

"I meant to return this to Rene, before, but it passed my mind," I reach into my pocket suddenly, pulling out a golden necklace that hangs heavily from between my fingers. I completely forgot that I even had it, for a moment. "I figured it must something important."

Cyrus's golden eyes linger on the piece of jewelry in my hand, eyes softening the slightest bit, but still void of any emotion. He reaches forward, taking the necklace from me, a little too eagerly.

"I purposefully left this behind for Riku Hano to find when my daughter was born," Cyrus reveals, gazing down at the jewelry that rests in the palm of his hand. "I have known that you would come here for many years, Illumi. Since before you were born. Rene is unaware of this."

I frown, taken aback by his revelation. Had he known I would come to visit him, then he must have known what would happen to Mia. He would have been able to prevent everything bad from happening. But he didn't.

"Excuse me?" I grumble, beginning to feel a tinge of anger build up within me.

Cyrus shakes his head dismissively, almost like he could sense the tension building within me from his words. He continues.

"The Creator will make you a proposition, when the time comes," Cyrus reveals, slipping the necklace into his pocket. "He will allow Mia to live as a human but will ask for something in return. You must accept. It is crucial that you do whatever he asks of you. No matter what the conditions are."

I look towards the cottage, in the far distance, past the dense greenery of the forest. The illuminated porch lingers beneath the night sky.

"How do you know all of this?" I decide to ask, feeling uneasy about Cyrus's certainty. Perhaps this is an ability of his, to see into the future. However, there must be a reason why he is so adamant that we agree to the Creator's terms. The possibilities of what he may ask for are endless.
