Mia
Mia Hano, the heiress to a beautiful gift, and the second child to Riku and Marla Hano was a bright child who had been kept in the dark about what life had to serve, and the evil within it. In the end, her unconditional love and goodness led her to her own downfall. This was a path that she did not fully understand. A path that would lead her to eternal suffering.
In her first moments after death, all she could see was light. Unlike the darkness that used to consume her being everytime she neared death, this light left her feeling comforted and reassured. As if she belonged. But the did not belong.
When Marla came to see her, this time, Mia immediately recognized her. The mother angel loomed over her child with nothing but confusion.
Just like when Mia was in the darkness, she found herself unable to move or speak. Instead, she lay suspended floating motionlessly in the light that shun at her in every direction.
Marla, a beautiful angel, adorned these beautiful white wings that stretched out from her back and out into the air. As if they were in slow motion, they batted every now and then. The large wings did not emit any sound as they moved. They completely and utterly silent. It was peaceful.
"My love," Marla hummed, "You have just made the worst mistake."
It was with only a breath of wind that the calmness and serenity that had settled in Mia was driven away and stricken with sudden fear. She stared up at her mother with wide and fearful eyes.
"You have committed a sin, my child, and now you must be punished."
There was no more comfort to be found in Marla's voice anymore.
Suddenly a large area of light from beneath the two vanished and was quickly replaced with complete darkness. The same darkness that Mia had become so familiar with.
And then she was falling.
The darkness consumed the light in her vision as gravity sucked her, and only her, down into the abyss. Mia watched her mother along with the light shrink out of her sight as literally fell from heaven. The feeling of butterflies exploded in her stomach but was nothing compared to the emptiness that Mia felt inside of her heart. She finally understood her foolishness.
It was a sin to take a life. Even if it was your own. That was something that Marla had explained to Mia when she was young. If only she had remembered it.
"Moreover the word of the Lord came to me: mortal, raise a lamentation over the king of Tyre, and say to him. Thus says the Lord God: You were the signet of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering, carnelian, chrysolite, and moonstone, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald; and worked in gold were your settings and your engravings. On the day that you were created they were prepared. With an anointed cherub as guardian, I placed you; you were on the holy mountain of God; you walked among the stones of fire. You were blameless in your ways from the day that you were created, until iniquity was found in you. In the abundance of your trade, you were filled with violence, and you sinned; so I cast you as a profane thing from the mountain of God, and the guardian cherub drove you out from among the stones of fire. Your heart was proud because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I exposed you before kings, to feast their eyes on you. By the multitude of your iniquities, in the unrighteousness of your trade, you profaned your sanctuaries. So I brought out fire from within you; it consumed you, and I turned you to ashes on the earth in the sight of all who saw you. All who know you among the peoples are appalled at you; you have come to a dreadful end and shall be no more forever" (Ezekiel 28:11-19)
Illumi Zoldyck
Finding Mia laying on the ground was devastating.
Illumi knew from the moment he felt her aura slip away that something terribly wrong had happened. Deep within, he understood that something as horrifying as this had happened. It didn't stop him though from being absolutely horrified.
There were very few moments in his life where he could remember feeling emotions this intense. Like when he was told by his parents that they were having their second child but that was many years ago. This feeling, however, overthrew anything he'd ever felt. He was in complete shock.
If it wasn't for Mamoru, Illumi would have been standing over Mia's unmoving body on the ground for the rest of eternity. She looked so pale and... well dead.
The woman he came to love, the woman that he so desperately wanted to share his future with was gone. This idea had a hard time settling in his mind but then multiple thoughts began to bloom.
How had she died? How did this happen? Did somebody kill her? Is she really dead?
His eyes traveled up from her body on the ground to meet Mamoru who was observing him closely.
Had he killed her?
In an instant, he held Mamoru pinned against the muddy ground, "You did this," He roared, "You killed her." He was so angry that his whole body began to shake. Fury burned within the depths of his being.
The woman he loved was gone and he could not save her.
He could not save her.
Mamoru began to struggle underneath Illumi who just held him pinned there, "Get the fuck off me," He growled, "I didn't kill her, she fell from the fucking tree, can't you tell?"
She fell.
Fell.
Illumi sat back up and let go of Mamoru. He looked directly above Mia where a tall tree stood looming over them. He then looked back down at her and noticed evidence of the fall. She lay in an unnatural position probably with a broken back. She seemed to be bleeding out of the back of her head and her mouth. There were multiple twigs, leaves, and scratches that decorated her frail body.
That was when Illumi began to cry. He began to cry when he realized that she left him and was never gonna come back. Illumi fell to his knees beside Mia's body and let his tears silently fall. Slowly, he slipped his arms underneath his beloved's limp body and lifted her to his chest, crying.
"Come," Mamoru's voice was hard, "Let's bring her back."
The walk seemed endless. The entire time Illumi looked ahead of him, refusing to let his eyes fall on the dead face of the woman in his arms. He could not bring himself to look at her. Knowing that she would not be looking back at him ever again killed him. In the end, this relationship that they shared did not work out. In the end, he got hurt and the words that he once used to preach to his brother repeated themselves in the back of his mind.
Killers don't need friends. They only get in their way. In the end, your only going to end up leaving them or they leave you.
This was why Illumi vowed never to love another woman again. For he could not bear the pain of losing them.
