Mia
I wake.
There is just darkness. I squint, trying to acknowledge any familiarity in the room. Sifting through my most recent memories, I also try to remember when I fell asleep, but to no avail. My memories are one big fog.
As my senses begin to return, I realize that the floor beneath me, which I had been sleeping on, is uneven and made of rock. I place my two palms onto the cold floor, dirt immediately coating every inch of them.
Fear begins to creep in, along with a choking claustrophobic paranoia. I realize instantly. I have no recollection of how I came to be in this place. Or how to get out.
I shoot up onto my feet, looking around in a panic.
"Over here," A childish giggle echoes from behind me, eliciting every hair on my body to stand on edge.
I swirl around. Nothing.
I allow a moment of silence, waiting for whoever spoke to reveal themselves. Although, in this
darkness, I doubt I'd be able to see them.
Suddenly, a light appears not far from me, and then another, followed by another. In amazement - and terror - I watch as specks of light increase, winking in and out of sight, creating what looks like stars against a black canvas. Were it not for the small sound of rushing water, I would be convinced that I was staring into the night sky.
I realize that I am in a cave and that I am looking at these strange bug-like creatures illuminating a brilliant amount of light.
I gasp in amazement, as I look around me. The newfound light illuminates a huge underground cave, whose water seems to glow a mixture of azure and turquoise blue. The grey walls of the cave are adorned with vines hanging from the ceiling and sticking together to create thick greenery.
I approach the small body of water, pushing away the greenery, which hangs heavily from the walls and ceiling, out of my face.
Wading quickly, I make it to the edge of the water, realizing that I am now stepping on some sand.
All the lights in the cave wink out as I crouch down, looking into the water, before slowly reappearing.
The water is crystal clear, tinted with a vivid green that's breath-taking. Beneath the water, there are no creatures, just settled earth and a myriad of different colored rocks.
"What the hell is this place?" I mumble to myself.
I squint, trying to see if the water leads to anywhere. Instead, I am met with my own reflection. My features are dull, but my green eyes shine brightly, reflecting the flickering lights in the cave. Suddenly my face begins to morph. My features twist and turn, eyes growing, likes shrinking. Before I know it, I am not longer staring at the reflection of myself. I am staring at someone else. Illumi.
He seems to be in the middle of a conversation with someone on the phone and does not notice me.
"Illumi!" I call out, praying that he could hear me.
He looks the same as the last time I'd seen him, but at the same time very different. He's stressed.
Moments go by and I quickly realize that he might not be able to even hear me.
"Illumi, can you hear me?" I call out again, my voice quickly draining of any ounce of hope I had.I prepare myself for disappointment, by all hope seeping from my pores ceases as Illumi pulls down the phone from his ear and looks around him. Did he hear me?
