~ A Year Later ~

"Ma, I'm already late. My hair looks fine!" My moody teenager whines. "Okay, okay, okay. Fine. I'm sorry. Babe, can you get my purse off the kitchen counter? We gotta go." I said. Justin makes his way toward the kitchen. I grabbed the camera and snapped one more picture of my baby girl. "Mom!" Ava complained. I giggled and ran out of the room.
Today was bittersweet for me and Justin. Mainly me because I'm emotional. My baby girl was going to her first school dance. She was in 9th grade and this was going to be her first homecoming dance. My cry baby ass has been crying all damn day. I couldn't help it. My babies were growing up way too fast.
"Babe, come on. Stop crying. You been crying all day." Justin says to me in the car. I wipe my nose with a tissue. "I know, I'm sorry. It's just my baby girl isn't a baby anymore." I said. Justin reached for my hand and gave it a gentle rub. "I know, baby. But you gotta realize our kids can't stay babies forever." He tells me. "Let's have another baby then." I say. "Girl, don't play like that. I'll park this car and we can get it popping in the backseat." My husband tells me. I busted out laughing. "You are crazy!" I said.
It was a Friday night in October. Justin and I were on our way home from dropping Ava off at her school for her first homecoming dance. Elian was at a birthday party/ sleepover so you know what that meant. My husband and I were kid free for the night. I loved my babies, don't get me wrong. I just can't remember the last time Justin and I had some alone time. Shit, it was probably before I got pregnant.

"Mommy, it's so hot outside!" Kaiden says. "I know, baby. Keep drinking your water, okay?" I said to my son. I check my weather app and it says it's 89 degrees. "Babe, you good?" Kaleb asked. I nodded my head. "Yeah, I'm okay. It's just hot!" I said.
Kaleb and I surprised the kids with a trip to Disney. We took the kids to Disney World in Florida instead of staying in LA. Kaleb's sister lives in Miami and she hasn't seen the kids in a long time so we figured why not. Instead of getting a hotel or staying in an Airbnb, we were staying with Kaleb's sister and her husband. She insisted.
"Be careful, baby!" I yell out to KJ. I watched closely while both of my boys went on a ride. My babies were having so much fun. Kaleb and I watched from the gate while KJ and Kaiden screamed joyfully on the ride. It made me happy to see my kids happy. Little miss Kaia was in her stroller, eating an ice pop.
"Hello?" I said into my phone. "Hey, when are y'all coming back home?" My big sister, Camilla asked. I sat back in the passenger seat. "Hey, sissy! We come back next week. Why, is everything okay?" I said. "Yeah, Leiani just misses her Titi and her cousins." Camilla says. I laughed and sighed out of relief. "Oh! Girl, you scared me for a minute. I thought something happened." I said.
We were in the car, on our way back to Kaleb's sisters house. When we got here, Kaleb rented a nice blue van for us to drive back and forth on our trip. Anyway, all 3 kids were sleeping peacefully in the backseat. I was tired and hot. I couldn't wait to get back to the house so that I could shower.
As soon as we got back to the house, Tamia, Kaleb's sister, and her husband, Jamal, helped us bring all of our things inside. Kaleb brought the kids one by one inside. I grabbed my purse and my beach bag before heading inside. It made no sense to be this excited about taking a shower. This how you know I'm getting old.
Tamia was older than Kaleb by 5 years. No matter their age, however, they were inseparable when they were kids. Tamia had 4 kids. She had a set of twin girls, Makenna and  Mya. They were 11. Next, there was her youngest son Bryson. He was 8. Finally, her oldest son, Kyrie. He had just turned 17. They were all such good kids.
I was in the bathroom, finally about to take my shower. Suddenly, I got this weird feeling that I was being watched. Just as I was about to shake that feeling, I heard a loud thud. It came from the other side of the bathroom door. All of my kids were asleep, and Kaleb was on the balcony. At least he was before I got to the bathroom.
About 10 minutes later, I finish my shower. I wrap my towel around my body and adjust my bonnet. Next, I take a look at myself in the mirror. Then, I get that weird feeling that I'm being watched again. This time, I cannot seem to shake the feeling. Something told me to open the door and when I did, I screamed. My sister-in-law's husband, Jamal had been standing there. He smiled.
"Did I scare you?" He asked. After finally catching my breath, I laughed nervously. "Um, yes. You did, actually." I said. When I tried to make my way past him, it was almost like he wouldn't allow me to walk away. He wouldn't move. "I didn't mean to scare you. You know I've been watching you the past couple days that you've been here." Jamal says.
Okay, now I was getting scared. I never really had a reason to be afraid of Jamal. He never gave me that vibe. Well, not until now. I mean who the fuck says shit like that?!
I was extremely uncomfortable. I wanted nothing more than to be out of there. "I, um... I have to get to my husband and my children. Kaleb's probably worried about me." I said, trying to push past him. I wasn't successful, though. Next thing I knew, he grabbed me by my arms and slammed me against the wall. "What are you doing?!?" I said. "I've wanted you for so long!" He tells me. "Get off of me! Let go of me!" I cried. Just as he was about to kiss me, I smacked him across the face. Then, I kicked him where the sun doesn't shine and I ran upstairs.
I found Kaleb sitting on the balcony of our guest room. The kids were sound asleep. "Baby, what happened?? You all out of breath. You good?!" He says to me. I was breathing heavy and crying. "No, I'm not." I said. "What's wrong? Talk to me!" "Jamal just sexually assaulted me." I said.
I told Kaleb everything that happened. By the time I finished, he was more upset than I was. He seemed calm, but he was actually fuming. I knew him. He sat there on the bed and said nothing.
