Camilla

~ 4th of July weekend ~

"I'm surprised it wasn't packed." Nya says, putting her seat belt on and then checking her phone. I put on my favorite lip gloss and blew a bubble with my gum. "For real. Normally the nail salons are mad busy around this time." I said, pulling out of the parking lot. "Facts. Cause everybody and they mama want they nails done for the 4th." Nya joked. I laughed. "Deadass." I said.
It was 4th of July weekend and Nya and I were leaving the nail salon. I loved having my hair and nails done at the same time. I felt like a whole new bitch. A bad bitch. Anyway, it was 11 am and we've been out all morning running errands. Our families were coming to stay with us from Jersey. This was gonna be so much fun because we been homesick like a motherfucker.
"Mommy, hi!" I said, greeting my mother with a long hug. She grabbed my waist. "Hi, baby." She says to me. I haven't seen my mother or my baby sister since  Nya and I moved out here. That was 4 months ago and the longest I've ever been away from home besides college. I missed my mama and baby sister.
My mother and father divorced when my little sister, Celeste was only an infant. They definitely loved each other, things just didn't work out. My parents were cool though. To this day, they still act as if they were never married with 2 kids. It was almost like they were just best friends. It didn't bother me, though. I was just happy they got along after all these years.
"What are you cooking?" I asked my mom. She and Celeste had only been here for 2 hours and she was already chefing it up in my kitchen. "Macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, collard greens, sweet potato's, and cornbread." She tells me. "It smells so good in here!" My sister, Celeste says, walking into the kitchen. "I was looking for you! Where you been?" I said. "I was using the bathroom. Milla, can I talk to you about something? It's important." She whispered.
My sister Celeste and I were super close. Even though we were 5 years apart, we spent every waking moment together growing up. That was my baby. Couldn't nothing break the bond we had.
Anyway, Celeste and I left the kitchen and sat in the living room. I studied my sisters body language. She was nervous about something. I could tell. "You good, mama? You look like you saw a ghost." I said. "I'm pregnant." Celeste blurted out. My mouth hung to the floor. "You said what?" I say.
I was shook. Like, literally stuck in the same position. For some reason, I couldn't move. I wasn't sure what to do. My little sister was sitting here, telling me that she was pregnant. What do you do in a situation like this? How do you react?
Next thing I knew, Celeste started crying. I pulled her in for a hug. "Don't cry. It's gonna be okay." I tell her. "I'm scared. I don't know how I'm gonna tell mommy." My baby sister cried. I rubbed her head. "I don't understand how this happened. Kaleb and I used a condom. We always do." Celeste says. I sighed. "Why don't we tell mommy together? Would that make you feel better?" I asked. "It would make me feel less scared." My sister says.
We found our mother in the kitchen. She was still cooking. After talking to Celeste for an hour and coming up with a plan, we finally mustered up the courage to tell her. Our mother turned around. "Oh, there my girls are! I was wondering where y'all were." She says, all smiles. "Mommy, I need to tell you something." Celeste said. I gripped her hand tighter. "What's the matter, baby?" Our mother says. "I'm... I'm pregnant." Celeste blurted out.
My mothers expression was super hard to read. We couldn't tell if she was mad, happy, sad, nothing. She was silent for at least 15 minutes. "Celeste, how could you not be more careful?! You just turned 18. You're going away to college in the fall. How in the hell are you supposed to take care of a baby and be a full time college student?!" My mother yelled. "Mom, Kaleb and I have been careful! We use condoms all the time." Celeste says, defending herself. "Well, how long have you known?" My mother wanted to know. "Since my birthday." Celeste says to us. "Your birthday was last month, Celeste! How come you're just now telling me this?!?" Our mother demanded. Celeste started crying all over again. "Because I knew you would act like this!" Celeste says. It was quiet. "Does Kaleb know?"
Kaleb was my sisters boyfriend. The two of them have been dating for 2 years I believe. He was a good kid, older than Celeste by a year. Kaleb graduated the year before her and was attending Rutgers University on a football scholarship. Like I said, he was a good kid.
"Actually, yeah. I told him as soon as I found out." Celeste says. My mother was definitely angry at this point. I felt like I was in such an awkward situation.
"You told him before you told me?" My mother says. "I mean, it is his baby, ma. Don't you think he should've been one of the first people to know?" I butted in. My mother glared at me. "Don't you go defending her." She snapped. I put my hands up and took a seat.

Nya

"I'm so glad y'all are here!" I said, hugging my mother. "I know, me too. We missed you so much!" My mama says. Next, I hugged my brother Justin. "I'm happy you could make it!" I said, taking my niece. "Hi, Titi Ny!" Ava says. I kissed her cheek. "Hi, baby! I missed you so much." I tell her.
My brother Justin, Ava, and my mother showed up after Camilla's family. I sensed some tension and Camilla told me that she would tell me everything at a later time. I ain't want no parts. So, I decided to show my family around town.
The first place I took my family to was the mall. It was my favorite place in the world. Next, I took them to this food spot. It was this cute little Mexican restaurant. If we're being completely honest, all I've been eating was Mexican food since we've lived here.
"How do you like living in LA?" My brother asked. I beamed. "I love it here! I mean the only thing I miss about Jersey is y'all, of course." I said. My big brother smiled. "We miss you, too." Justin says. "Where's Juju?" I asked, just now realizing that my younger brother wasn't here. My mother rolled her eyes. "He didn't wanna come." She tells me. I made a face. "Why?!?" I asked. "He got himself a lil girlfriend now and didn't wanna be away from her for too long." My mom says. I busted out laughing. "Y'all are only gonna be here for 3 days. He couldn't be away from her for 3 days?" I said. "That's what I said. But you know ya brother. He's too dramatic." My mom said. I took a sip of my sangria. "That's crazy! He really chose a girl over his family." I teased. "He's 15. You know how teenagers are. They start dating someone and think they all in love." Justin said. "Facts." I said.
As soon as we got home, it was quiet. Like, nobody was in the house. Camilla's car was in the front so I knew that wasn't the case. I'm the type of person that hates silence. It always has to be loud or at least somebody has to be talking to me 24/7.
I went to use the bathroom later that night when I heard crying. The sound was coming from the bathroom. When I opened the door, I saw Celeste. She was curled up in a ball in the bathtub.
"Celeste, are you okay?" I asked. She wiped her face and looked at me. "No." She says to me. I sit down in front of her. "What's wrong? You can talk to me about anything." I assured her. She pulled her knees to her chest. "I'm pregnant." She tells me. "How do you know? Did you take a test?" I said. "I bought a test and my period never came." Celeste says. "Does ma know?" I wanted to know. She nodded. "Was she mad?" I asked. "Pissed." "What about Camilla? Did you tell her?" I questioned. "I told her before I told our mother. She suggested that we tell her together."
Celeste and I talked about her situation for at least 2 hours. She told me that Kaleb knew and that she didn't wanna get an abortion. Celeste also told me that Kaleb didn't want her to get an abortion either. She said she was scared, which is completely normal. I assured her that everything would be okay. I mean, I hoped it would be. For her sake.
