~ 6 Months Pregnant ~

"How do you feel?" Anthony asked. I looked at him through the mirror while applying my lashes. "Like I'm about to bust." I said. My fiancé laughed. "It's not funny!" I whined. Anthony covered his mouth to keep from laughing. "I'm sorry, baby." He says.
My name is Genesis Bianca Acevedo. I'm 22 years old and I live in Jersey. I was born and raised here, but I don't plan on staying here. It's too expensive. Anyway, I graduated with a degree in English and was currently working as a substitute teacher.
Anthony was my fiancé. He and I have been together for 7 years now, engaged for 1. We started off as best friends. Until one day, Anthony asked me on a date. One thing lead to another and boom. Here we are today. In love, engaged to be married, and expecting our first child.
Today was also a very special day. Our baby shower for our precious little princess. I only found out the gender a month ago. But I had a feeling I was having a girl. So, I had names. We were naming our baby girl Valeria Eliana Acevedo- Gutierrez.
"Baby, can you help me up?" I asked, after finishing my makeup. Anthony did as I asked and helped me. "Thank you, babe." I said. He winked at me. I was already dressed and my hair was done. My makeup was on point, too. I was ready!
"You look so beautiful. You're glowing!" My Aunt Judy says, hugging me. I smiled. "Thank you, Titi! And thank you so much for coming." I tell her. "When are you due?" She asked. "July 8th." I said.
The baby shower was wrapping up, and everybody was starting to leave. I was in the kitchen with my sister, Krystal, our mother, and my cousin Giselle. We were laughing and gossiping. Doing what women do. It was nothing but positive vibes.
That is, until my least favorite cousin, Marlene came into the kitchen. She clearly had way too much to drink. Who gets drunk at a baby shower? Of all places. Are you deadass?
My cousin Marlene and I were the same age. We grew up together. However, I could always sense the tension between us. Our parents were always trying to compare the two of us. I was a straight A student while Marlene was the exact opposite. We went to the same high school so we always saw each other. Even though Marlene always acted like she was embarrassed to be related to me.
Anyway, Marlene smelt like she took a bath in vodka. I was trying to hide the fact that I was pissed at her. However, you could see the anger all over my face. Krystal took a look at me. Then, she pulled me to the side. "You look pissed. Are you okay?" She says. "I am pissed! Who gets drunk at a baby shower?!" I said. My older sister sighed. "You're right. That shit is wack. I'll talk to her." Krystal says.
She and I both knew that talking to drunk Marlene was a no go. The only person that could talk some sense into her was our aunt Judy, her mother. However, she had already left. Marlene wasn't one of those drunks that you had to babysit and take care of the entire night. She knew exactly what she was doing. This girl had been drinking since she was 15, so she was a pro. Sad, but it was the truth.
"Can you believe your cousin?" My mother says, taking a seat next to me on the porch swing. I chuckled and shook my head. "I can't say that I'm surprised... but at a baby shower, seriously?" I said. "That's what I said! Oh, my God. Who does that?" My mama says. We both laughed. "I mean, we probably shouldn't be laughing but I can't help it." I tell my mom.
My cousin, Marlene has had a drinking problem for years now. It was horrible. Everybody in the family knew about it. The fucked up part? Nobody really cared enough to actually step in and do something about it. With the exception of my mother, Krystal, my aunt Judy, and myself of course. I mean, yeah she and I didn't get along but at the end of the day she was still my blood cousin. I didn't want anything bad to happen to her.
The next morning, I was woken up out of my sleep. There was this Godly smell coming from the kitchen. I thought it was odd, considering I did the cooking in my house. Anyway, I brushed my teeth and made my way towards the kitchen. When I got there, Anthony was definitely in there, cheffing it up.
"Good morning, baby!" My fiancé says, greeting me with a forehead kiss. I smiled. "Good morning, my love!" I said. I was still in shock because this man never cooks. "Did you brush your teeth yet?" Anthony asked. This was a regular morning thing with us. We don't kiss each other until after we've brushed our teeth.
I grinned. "You know it!" I said. "That's my girl." Anthony says. We kissed slowly and passionately. I liked to think we were a unique couple. "So, what are you out here cooking?" I questioned. "Your favorite. I made eggs, bacon, waffles , sausage, and grits." My man tells me. I was speechless. My mouth hung to the floor.
After breakfast, Anthony started getting ready for work. I was on maternity leave so I was bored in the house all day, waiting for my man to come back home. It was so depressing being here alone. See, Anthony was a gym teacher at an elementary school while also coaching basketball for middle school students. So he was good with kids all around.
"Call me if you need anything, okay?" My man tells me. I give him one last kiss. "I will. Have a great day, baby. I love you." I said. "I love you, more." He says. Then, he walks out of the door.
"Thank you for getting me out of the house today. I appreciate it." I tell my sister. "Not a problem at all. You know I got you." Krystal tells me. I smiled. "You know, I never pictured us being pregnant at the same time." I confessed. "Honestly, me either. You're way farther along than me, though." My sister tells me. "I mean, yeah. But it's still crazy." I said. "It is crazy."
I called my sister up and told her that I've been feeling lonely. So, you know what she did? She picked me up from my house, treated me to manicures and pedicures, and afterwards we were going to lunch. All her treat.
Yes, both Krystal and I were pregnant at the same time. However, my child was gonna be 3 months older than my sisters. She didn't even know what she was having yet. I thought this was such a special moment for the both of us. Call me corny, but hey. I didn't really care.
Later that day, I was taking my daily nap when my phone rang. My mother was calling me. "Hello?" I said into the phone. "You're not busy are you?" She asked. I sigh deeply. "I was taking a nap. But I'm up now. Wassup?" I said. "Oh, I'm sorry. Did I wake you?" My mom says. "Actually, yes you did. But it's okay." I say. "I wouldn't be calling if it wasn't important." My mother explains. I sat up. "Is everything okay?" I asked. "No. It's your cousin, Marlene. She was rushed to the hospital."
