"Ava, be careful, okay, baby?" I said. "Otay, mommy!" She says. I watched my child climb the jungle gym. "You worry way too much. She good!" Justin whispers to me. I take a deep breath and exhale. My anxiety was kicking my ass today.
Justin and I have been spending an unusual amount of time together these past couple of months. He and I talked about some things and we've decided to just be friends from now on. All the hate and negativity wasn't good for Ava. I haven't told him that I was still in love with him and honestly, I was afraid to. We were in such a good place currently and I didn't wanna ruin that.
"It's good, mami?" Justin says, watching Ava tear up her food. She nodded her head and we laughed. After taking our baby girl to the playground, we took her to McDonald's. One thing I've noticed is that when both Justin and I are happy, Ava is happy.
Ever since I told Justin about what happened between Felix and I, he's been really overprotective of me. Like I said, we were in such a good place as of right now. I was happy and by the looks of it, so was my baby daddy. I loved it.
"Let me holla at you for a minute. Let's talk." Justin says. I take a seat next to him on my couch. "Okay, wassup." I said, nonchalantly. Ava was asleep in her room. "So, you never told me the reason why you broke up with old dude. I mean, I know it's none of my business because we not together but you know I'm nosy. Plus, I wanna make sure you good." My baby daddy says. I smiled nervously.
The real reason I broke up with Felix was because I was still in love with Justin. I wanted our little family back. We were so happy. Couldn't nobody tell us nothing. We had everything.
I took a deep breath. Just as I was about to say something, Justin's phone rang. "Damn, I'm sorry. I gotta take this." He says, standing up. I watched as he went in the kitchen. My phone rang and it scared the shit outta me.
"Hello?" I said. "What you doing?" My sister asked. I take a deep breath and lay my head on the closest couch pillow. "Nothing. Chilling with Justin." I say. "Wait, chilling with Justin? Since when were y'all cool again?" Genesis questioned. "We've decided to co- parent and keep things positive for Ava's sake." I explained. "So, I assume you haven't told him that you still love him." My little sister says. "No, I haven't told him yet." I said. "Tell who what?" Justin says. I jumped and hung up on my sister.
"Um, nothing. I was just on the phone with Genesis." I said. My baby daddy sat next to me. "You good?" He says. I nodded my head. "Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just really tired." I say, lying through my teeth. "Aight. It is late. I'ma head home. I'll text you when I get home." Justin says, getting up yet again. "Okay." I said, standing up as well. "I love you." My baby daddy tells me. "Huh?" I said. "I said, I love you. Goodnight." He says, hugging me before exiting the room.
The next morning, I woke up around 7 am. Ava had to be at daycare by 9 and I had to be at work by 10:45.  Justin had agreed to take Ava to daycare so I was up waiting for him to get here. My baby girl was dressed and eating her breakfast.
I was a lash tech while also attending class 3 days a week. I was tryna buy a house for my princess and me. Nothing too over the top. Just something bigger than this dusty ass 2 bedroom apartment.
I kissed Ava's cheek before saying goodbye to her. "Mommy loves you, okay? I'll see you later, baby." I tell her. "I love you, mama!" My baby says. I strapped her into her car seat. "Have a good day!" Justin tells me. "You too. I'll see y'all later." I said.
"I feel like you should just tell baby daddy how you feel already." My coworker and best friend, Karmen says to me. I took a sip of my iced coffee. "I'm not sure if I should. I mean we've been doing so good with the whole co-parenting thing. I don't wanna complicate things." I said. Karmen sucked her teeth. "This man ejaculated inside of you and y'all have a child together. I don't think it could get anymore complicated than that." She says.
Karmen and I have been cool for about 5 years now. She and I were one in the same. We were born the same year and both of us were Leos. She was a little bit more lit than I was, though. That's why I loved her, however. She was crazy but in a good way.
"Karmen!" I said. "What? We grown so we might as well talk about it. I don't see an issue." She says. I sighed. "I guess you're right." I said in a low tone. "Correction; you know I'm right." She says. I roll my eyes and finish my drink. "Whatever." I said.
"Hello?" I said into the phone. "Hey, are you home?" Genesis says. "I'm leaving work now. Why wassup?" I said, starting my car. "I was gonna stop by. I have something to tell you." My little sister says. "Okay. I'll be home in like 10 minutes." I said.
When I got home, my sisters black jeep was parked next to my parking spot. "What took you so long?" Genesis asked me when I got out of my car. "Well, hello to you too my dear sister." I said. She laughed and hugged me. "I'm sorry, big sissy. Hi, my love!" She says, rocking me back and forth.
My sister and I were 6 years apart. Even though I was older, Genesis was everything I wish I was. She was super overprotective of me. There was no such thing as the perfect human being, but my sister was damn near close.
"So, what did you have to tell me?" I asked, pouring 2 glasses of wine. "I'm pregnant." Genesis says. I look up at her. "Are you really?" I said. She nodded her head. "Yeah." She tells me. I started to tear up. "That just made my day. Congratulations, Gen!" I said, hugging my sister. "Thank you!" She says. "Does Anthony know?" I questioned.
Anthony was Genesis' fiancé. They've been together a while. I'm not sure how long but I know it's been a long time. Their relationship was everything. He treated my sister like such a queen. I've never seen Genesis this happy.
