Aron Ryle's POV
"Doc Ryle?" Yesenia called from behind. I was just done talking with our department's director. "I need to talk about something with you," she continued.
I turned around and slid my hand into my coat's pocket. "Is that about a patient? You seemed serious."
"No. It's about us," she replied. "Let's talk somewhere?"
"Sure." I followed her when she led the way.
"What's that news?" she began. We are now at the hospital's garden at the back. "I've been busy on my study and residency but still got involved in news like that?"
"So am I!" I claimed. "I don't even know a single thing about that marriage on the news."
"Maybe, it was my mom?" she guessed.
"What?"
"She's been looking for a man for me to marry."
My mom mentioned that she was the one who released that news. Maybe, both parties planned it.
"Then, why must it be me?"
"Wow!" She chuckled. "I liked you but it doesn't mean I want to marry you."
"Straightforward!" I hissed. "Your complexion doesn't fit your personality."
"Why? Do I look too fragile?"
I shook my head. "Just look at the mirror and you'll see."
"I know that I don't carry that villain vibe. Most people around me told me that I was adorable and lovely."
"They weren't lying when they said that, Yesh. You really looked like a living doll," I thought.
"What are we going to do?" she asked.
"What?" I begged.
"You are dating her, aren't you? Then I should correct that news!"
"How did you know I was dating her?" I asked, referring to Dwight. I know that she was talking about her.
"Tinatanong pa ba 'yan? It's too obvious, Ryle." She seated on one of the stone chairs around. "Ang totoo niyan, nasa first year pa lang tayo sa med school, alam ko na may nililigawan ka na. Si Dwight? Palagi ko kayong naririnig na nag-uusap ni Zack tungkol sa kaniya." She met my gazes. "When you said you wanted her to walk down the aisle as your other half, I was there. I heard all of them."
"Yesh, you—"
"Curious why I've been hanging around you?" She chuckled and paused for a moment. "I was just trying to see if I can change your heart. I was thinking that all men can't resist it when women around them but you proved me wrong. You never laid your eyes on me like how you stare at Dwight, Ryle. You know, your eyes shine differently when you look at her, as if she's the only woman in the world."
"Yesh..."
"You were famous at Dreamnote, you know. Noong nalaman ko na magkakasama tayo sa med school, sinabi ko sa sarili ko na kailangan kong mapalapit sa'yo. Should I blame for your handsome face? It challenged me when you show no interest with me. Most men are dying to be close to me, you know? But you were distant from me." She let out a breath. "Ayan, nasabi ko na. Don't misunderstand me anymore."
"Sorry. . ."
"Don't be sorry. I was the one who followed my heart even though I know I already lost since I took the first step. I don't deserve it if I'll make that as an excuse to chase you even more. You're not the one for me, Ryle. Maybe it was someone else. Someone who is more handsome than you." She shook her head. "Besides, my ideal partner is not a doctor."
