The crisp winter air entered my nostrils as I breathed in and out. It felt nice to breathe fresh air again, but I could not bring myself to feel a sense of euphoria. The feeling was being blocked by something gruesome. It was like I could see the light at the end of the tunnel, but there was a silhouette that came into view and ruined the entire euphoric experience.

All I could feel was fear and dread.

Fearful of what was happening to Nathan. Fearful of the roof collapsing and killing Kat and I. Fearful of the thought that Jackal could escape from this cottage.

Dread consumed my entire mind. I dreaded opening my eyes.

I know that once my eyes are open, all the damage and the heartbreak would be real. There would be no way to deny the tangible and irrefutable evidence that came along with the truth.

The roof of the cottage crumbled onto our heads.  Kat and I curled into a ball, but I made sure that her head was below mine - in order to protect her.  I attempted to shield her from the dirt, rocks, and literal cement that were falling on top of us.

Noise.

New noise.

No, not noise.

Voices! I hear voices.

God, I hope these are not angel voices, because I really hope that I did not go through all of that to be dead.

"Alex! Alex, can you hear me?" A voice said.

The cavalry!

"Dominick! Dominick, get us out of here!" I shouted.  Dominick, Henry, Gabe, and Seraphina ran over to Kat and I.  We were safe!  "Don't touch the chains!" I shouted.  "Where- Wh- Where is Nathan?  Jackal took him to another room.  Get me out of these! I need to find him!" I panicked.

I needed to find Nathan!

I needed to find and kill Jackal!

There were so many things that I needed to do in this moment, but I could not do anything, because my fucking hands are still shackled.
