Chapter 19

Callies POV

"It's Arizona. There's a problem" Alex says coming into the OR

"What" I ask frantically

"She's crashing"

"Crashing? She-"

"Temps 104, serum lactate is 6, she's in septic shock" he explains

"Shut up, shut up, shut up" I say trying to think

"Do you have her in pressors?" I ask

"I've got her on pressors, triple antibiotics, I've got her on aggressive I.I've fluids" he tells me

"Did you give her supplemental oxygen?"

"I intubated her, she's crashing" he says. Dammit dammit dammit

"Did you.... uh, did you start her on hydrocortisone" I ask

"Yea" he replies

"Um, do you have her on pressors" I ask again

"Yes, I told you yes, look. She's still deteriorating, she's dying" he says

"It's the leg" I sigh

"It's the leg" he repeats

" Cut it off.... go. Just.... do a good job. Please. Do your best." I say and he runs out. She is going to hate me, but I would rather he be alive and pissed then dead

I finished my surgery and went to find Arizona, it was a couple of hours later and she was asleep on the hospital bed.

I sat by her bed for another hour when she woke up,

"Calliope?" She ask looking around

"Zona" I say and hold her hand

"What are you doing?" She smiles

"Zona look at me. You started crashing.... and there was nothing else we could do" I say and she looks down to where her leg once was

"Callie" her voice breaks and tears swell up in her eyes

"You promised! You promised me you wouldn't let them take the leg!" She yells hiding her face in her hands

"Arizona you were dying! You can live without the leg we can't live without you" I say and she looks away from me

"Get out" she says

"Arizona" I sigh

"Get out Callie" she says again and I nod standing up and leaving her in the room and sit down on the other side of her door,

The kids would be here in the next hour but they can't see her today. They're going to be upset but they will be okay,

I got myself up and walked down to the waiting room where I usually go to bring them up to see her,

"Hey mom"  Luke says

"Hey bubba" I reply,

"Can we go see momma now?" Ollie ask

"Actually... not today bud, momma needs to rest" I say

"What happened?" Sofia ask

"You know how mommas leg was hurt?" I ask and they all nod

"Well it was infected and it was hurting her... well today it was too bad so we had to take the leg off and momma is a little upset" I explain

"Momma doesn't have a leg?" Liv ask

"Right. Momma only has one leg now" I say

"How will she walk?" She ask me

"Well, she can't for a while, but once it heals she can get a prosthetic and she will be able to walk just fine" I say and she nods

"But she'll be okay?" Luke ask

"Yea, she will be okay" I say and he sighs

"Thank god" he says and sits down in the chair

"Why can't we see her though?" Sofia ask

"She's not happy about the leg, and she needs to rest" I say

"Oh" she replies

"Can we see her tomorrow?" Ollie ask

"We'll see," I say

"I'll give you guys some money and you can order dinner in okay? Jo will be at the house around 5:45" I say

"Okay" Sofia says and I walk to Arizona's office where I keep my things and gave Sofia money

After I said goodbye to the kids I walked back upstairs to Arizona's room where she was looking at the wall with tears stained cheeks and Alex comes behind me

"Thank you" I say quietly

"What?" He ask

"I wouldn't have been able to do it. Thank you for saving her" I say

"Yea of course" he says and stays for a little then leaves and Bailey comes up to me

"She's alive, it's what matters" she tells me

"Yes I know that. I don't know if she does" I sigh

"Anything new on Derek?" I ask

"He's In a coma and it doesn't look too good. Tom, koracick came and examined him." She says

"30 days?" I ask

"30 days" she confirms

"Is that what Meredith Wants or just going by Derek directive?" I ask

"Both, she knows with no change he's not going to wake up," she tells me and I nod,

"How are the kids holding up?" I ask, it must be hard for them about to lose Their father, and having their mother suffering from PTSD at the same time

"As far as I know they are okay, I think Zola understands more as to why but she told me Ellis doesn't really know why she can't fix him, poor kids" she says and I sigh

We got lucky compared to Meredith and Derek. Our kids still have both of their parents. Theirs? Not so much

A few Hours later I walked into Arizona's room and she turned her attention to me Then looked away

"Arizona" I say

"Callie don't" she says and I sit down in the chair next to her bed

"You promised, you're my wife and you promised" she says without looking at me, the hurt in her voice sticking out

"I had no choice..." I reply

"Callie I'm missing a leg,... you had a choice. You could have said no. Like I asked you to do" she says

"You would have died, I was not letting you die. You can be pissed all you want but I was not letting our kids go home without their mother" I say

"Where are they?" She ask

"Home, they came in and I told them you needed rest" I say

"Did you tell them?" She ask me

"Yea... I did. And they don't care. They just care that you're going to be okay" I say and she sniffles

"I'm tired Callie, can you cut the lights off when you leave" she says and closes her eyes and I get up and shut the light off

"I love you" I say hopeful

"I love you" she says and wipes her eyes as I walk out of her room
