Chapter 37

Karas POV

Jo has been seeing her therapist for 2 weeks now, at first it was 3 times a week and now we're starting with 2, it's helped her a lot I feel, she no longer gets anxious  as much as she did and her anxiety about her birth mother has subsided,

Tomorrow is Ruby's birthday and we're heading to Target to pick her up something, we'll thats if Emery starts cooperating

She wanted to wear a dress, which is fine but she needs shorts underneath it since she likes to jump around a lot and I would rather not have her dress fly up to show just her underwear in the middle of the store

"Emery. If you don't put the shorts on we are not going. Mommy and Jo can go by themselves" I say

"I don't want them!" She yells

"Do you want to change clothes then?" I ask her and she shakes her head

"I want the dress" she says

"Then you need the shorts" I say

"No! I don't want the stupid shorts and you can't make me wear them!" She yells crossing her arms

"Emery Hope Luthor" Lena scolds a few feet away,

"You do not yell at Momma like that, you're going to put the shorts on, apologize and sit in time out before we go" she tells her firmly

"But mommy, I don't want to sit in time out" Emery pouts

"The you should have thought about that before you started acting like this" Lena tells her and she sighs

"I'm sorry for yelling at you momma" Emery says

"I know," I say and return her hug and help her step into the shorts and she climbs on the couch for her timeout

"Do not move from that spot" Lena tells her and she nods and I get up and walk back over to Lena

"She listens better to you" I say

"Kara hunny you're too nice while trying to discipline her, she doesn't take you seriously" Lena chuckles

"It's not funny, I try" I defend myself

"I know dear" she says and kisses my cheek,

I looked over at Emery who had her arms crossed with a few tears in her eyes, I always hate this part of timeouts, makes me feel like a horrible mother

5 minutes later Lena walked over to Emery and stood next to her

"I'm sorry for yelling and being bad" she says and Lena picks her up, placing her on her hip

"I know baby, and you're not bad, you're never bad. Sometimes your choices are bad but you aren't" Lena tells her kissing her cheek and tickling her stomach until she giggles

"Ready now?" I ask and she nods and Lena puts her down and Jo comes out of her room,

We made it to Target and the girls were pulling us everywhere looking to find the 'perfect' gift for Ruby,

We didn't have any idea of what to get her, Lena just suggested a couple gift cards, I wasn't opposed but the girls wanted to look first which was fine by us,

Emery wanted to get her some sort of unicorn toy, not even sure what is does. Instead we told her she could get the toy if she wanted it and listened in the store, she nodded happily and clung to the toy the entire time

Jo picked out some crafting objects and candy for Ruby and we also decided to pick a few gift cards for her.

Once we got home Jo was putting everything in a birthday bag so we had it out for tomorrow
