LEO: Hey Dave, we're done shopping. Want to meet us up at Chinatown? We're gonna go out for lunch & groceries

I swallowed.

DAVE: yeah, sure. sounds good. ill see u guys in a few. im gonna go shower so ill probably be there in 20 min

More like thirty minutes, God willing.

LEO: Yeah that's totally fine, we're just gonna walk around the mall some more and then head to the light rail.

Immediately, I stood up and walked out of the clothes rack I was hiding in.

Normally, the mall is only about a ten to fifteen minute walk from where I live. However, fueled by the power of sheer fear, I found myself standing in front of our door in less than five minutes. I quickly turned the key in the lock and shoved the door open, hoping to avoid being seen by any of our neighbors who might ask some questions. As I stepped foot inside, I looked around for signs of Leo and Valentina. Thankfully, it appeared they had kept their word and headed to the light rail instead.

I quickly ran to my room and looked under the bed, in the closet, trying to find the best hiding place. I decided on the closet. I quickly shoved all the shopping bags in there. Hopefully, nobody would get nosy and try looking inside of them. They were mainly full of scented sugar scrubs, sweet-smelling body mist, some crop tops that a salesperson had convinced me looked flattering, denim shorts of varying modesty and quite a few skirts. I prayed that nobody would come looking inside there and quickly changed back into the outfit I had left the apartment wearing. I wanted so badly to wear a crop top and a pleated skirt instead, but settled for the old t-shirt and raggedy-looking shorts.

I then changed into my running shoes, grabbed a canvas bag, and headed out. Seeing a bus headed to University of Washington about to round the corner, I quickly ran to the bus stop shelter and waited for the driver to stop for me.

Luckily enough, there weren't many people sitting inside. I quickly found a window seat and sat down, feeling the sunshine warm my face.

The air conditioning in the bus felt cool. I leaned back against my seat, watching the scenery outside.
