Yo wassup west coast?...(and all those other coasts, and non coastal areas.) So I'm starting a lovely new segment that deals with rants, advice, and anything else you guys would like. Sometimes I just get bored writing preferences, and who doesn't love to rant?

So with that being said I present to you my first ever Wattpad rant: Dumb Shit in Fanfictions #1

So for the first, I am going to be talking about Main Characters. Ah, yes the main character...the character who is the...main...

Anyway, so we've all read those books, you know what ones I'm talking about. The ones that are so cliche, and areunrelatable, and stereotypical. The sad part is...sometimes these stores actually have the potential of being something really great but the author chooses to go down the road that has way too many travelers on it. This creates reoccuring stereotypes that get annoying after awhile.

These stereotype that I am ranting about today is:

The broken & depressed girl.

This poor girl lost her mom to a fire, her dad is an alcoholic, her brother got hit by a train, her sister has an abusive boyfriend, and her dog ran away. She gets bullied every day at school, she has depression yet she's never been actually diagnosed by a professional. She thinks she's so ugly and fat, but when she describes herself she sounds absolutely beautiful. She cuts, and starves herself, yet no one seems to notice these cuts on her arms even though she makes no attempt to cover them up. Like I'm sure a teacher would noticed multiple parallel, horizontal lines on your wrist.

When she gets bullied she gets called a "whore" in the middle of class, or some girl starts beating the shit out of her in the hallway. Like girl where is your teacher? I mean apart of their job is to keep you safe at school, and if someone jumped up and called you an awful name in class they would be sent to the office, like what??

I guess what really pisses me off is the girls ALWAYS stops cutting as soon as she meets the boy. Um, I'm sorry, when has it ever actually worked like that? I have personal experience in this and I can literally tell you LOVE DOES NOT FIX EVERYTHING. You can not just quit cutting in one day because you like a boy, and then never get the urge to do it again. It is NOT that easy. Believe me, been there done that. It's still hard for me, and some situations make me want to relapse, but I've been clean for too long (almost three years :) ) and I STILL have to fight off the urge, and sometimes it's STILL really hard. It's been nearly three years!! Falling in love isn't going to make everything better, I swear. That is a battle that is up to you, you can't just bump into Sammy Wilk (my baby omf-) and be like "Oh I'm in love now, I'm done being depressed." No, it's something that sticks with you for a long freakin time.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't have depression or self harm in your story, I'm saying that you should probably make it a little more realistic. Like yes, this is fanfiction, and it is fake. But readers like to be able to relate themselves to characters, and if you have all of this going on they're going to be like oh man, she's a walking time bomb.

That's all for my rant, and I'm sorry if I offended anyone this is just my personal opinion. Let me know what you think, and what I should rant about next :)
