Christmas music played throughout the room and I waited by the entrance to the kitchen. I watched everyone mingling with bright smiles on their face and drinks in their hands. I sighed and sipped from my glass and tapped my foot impatiently. Where is he? I frowned and took another sip of my drink to finish it off. I looked around and decided to talk with some friends to catch up. I was back in my hometown at the annual Christmas party a friend of mine has held since the fourth grade. Of course it had changed over the years, and now we were all out of high school.
"Oh my gosh, hi!" an old friend greeted me with a big hug. I smiled and her strong scent filled my nostrils. I choked on the aroma and covered it up with a cough. I scrunched my nose and as we pulled away from the hug I wore a smile again. She had always gone a little too heavy on the perfume. "How have you been?"
"Really good, and pretty busy," I chuckled softly. "How's life here?"
"Oh, the same old, same old," she smiled. "Did you come alone?"
"Yeah, I'm just waiting for my boyfriend to get here," I said looking at my watch that he had given me as an early Christmas gift. "He should be here by now."
"Oh," she nodded. She pointed to a tall blonde and gestured for him to come over. He smiled as he reached her. "This is Jordan," she introduced me to him and we shook hands. "So you're living in Los Angeles right?"
"Yeah," I picked up another drink and took a sip. "We have an apartment with his best friend, and we constantly have all of our friends coming in and out."
"Oh," she faked a smile. "Can you go get me a drink?" She patted his shoulder and he walked off. Last Christmas started playing and I sighed.
"This is going to be Cam's last Christmas if he doesn't hurry," I muttered to myself.
"I'm sorry, what was that?" She asked me.
"Huh? Oh, sorry, nothing," I scratched my head and watched the door. After awhile I walked around to mingle with others. Three more songs played and I was waiting by the entrance to the kitchen again. I pulled out my phone and flattened a wrinkle in my red dress. I saw that I had a text message from Cam. I opened it and groaned when I saw it.
Hey, babe. Stuck in traffic thirty minutes away, won't be able to make it...
I rolled my eyes and stuffed my phone back into my clutch purse. I folded my arms over my chest and rested my head back on the doorframe. I felt arms wrap around my waist and my eyes jolted wide open. I turned around and Cameron's smiling face was in front of me. I gasped and hugged him close to me.
"I thought you weren't going to be able to make it?" I asked confused.
"I sent that while I was walking in, actually," he smirked and kissed my cheek. "What all have I missed?"
"Not much," I intertwined our fingers together and led him over to meet a few of my old friends. We danced to a couple songs, and the night seemed to be as if it was dragging along. These parties were always so much more fun when we were younger but since I moved away, they weren't interesting at all. "This party blows," I whispered in his ear. He chuckled and spun me around while we danced.
"Maybe we should leave?" he raised his eyebrow and I finished off my third drink. I sighed and nodded my head and went to go grab my coat.
"We'll throw our own Christmas party," he winked. I giggled and felt my cheeks flush a little. "We'll sneak off before anyone notices us," he had evident lust in his tone. I smiled and we crept out the door so no one would see us. We drove seperately to my parents house in the falling snow. The wind was blowing heavily and I was praying for my car to hurry and warm up. My parents house was about fifteen miles from the party. He drove behind me and I was hoping that my parents were both still going to be gone at another Christmas party.
As we pulled into the driveway I saw the car sitting there. I sighed and rested my head on the steering wheel and jumped clean out of the leather seat when Cam knocked on the window. I walked out of the car and we walked up to the door. "They're here," I rolled my eyes.
"Doesn't mean we can't be quiet," he kissed my neck sending shivers down my spine. I blushed and we walked through the door and my parents were sitting in the living room watching a Christmas special.
"Oh, you guys are home early," my mom said pausing the show. She smiled at us and I nodded. We went to go walk up the stairs and my parents stopped us. "Where are you guys going?" My mom asked. I spun around.
"Oh, probably going to go lay down. I'm pretty tired," I faked a yawn and my dad smirked.
"Oh no, we know exactly what you were wanting to do. You can watch this special with us instead," he chuckled and I felt my face heat up. I looked over at Cam and he was a faint red as well. "Come on, now. Don't be shy." My mother was smiling and Cam and I sat down on the love-seat. "We're watching Rudolph," my dad grinned.
"The cartoon?" I raised my eyebrow and smiled. He nodded. "Oh my, God."
We watched the show and I continuously laughed at my dad's odd humor. He would crack a smile every time a commercial would show. My mom even made us hot chocolate and gave us some of her special sugar cookies that I grew up loving more than anything. I ended up changing out of my dress and into pajama's and curled up with Cam in the living room. We watched another movie and all of us were laughing hysterically.
"I guess this is the best kind of Christmas party you can have, huh?" Cam nudged my side and I smiled and rested my head on his shoulder.
"Yeah," I smiled and kissed his cheek.
