"I haven't seen my sister in a year, I seriously doubt that'a going to happen." Lily told him.
"The legend says that one must spill her sisters blood."
"Obviously not my sister." Lily told him, the warning was clear.
"Who in their right mind would kill their sister?!"
"In the heat of the battle, all must make sacrifices." Lily glared at Zane, before her eyes narrowed.
"No."
"You should probably know. . ."
"Not in the mood!" Lily shouted. Her anger was about the reach boiling, and that was never good for anyone.
"Zane here, has a piece of your soul."
"Then give it back!" Lily shouted, angry eyes glaring into guilty blues.
"I can't. I didn't take it, I was born with it." Lily blinked.
"Still not in the mood, but start talking."
"I asked the Fates to save my wife's son. She was raped by a werewolf and the boy was killing her." Lily nodded, not liking the story in the least.
"I begged her to kill the child, but she refused. The boy was created out of dastridly ways, and so he was conceived without a soul. The body was trying to suck my wife's soul from the inside out."
"The Fates were kind, explaining that the grand design was unraveling because of a dark force." Lily studied Stew as his face clenched in pain.
"In separating the Mutt's soul, a force too large to survive in the conditions fashioned for her, the boy was able to be born without the half and half body that was depicted so long ago. He could grow up human, just a bit extra."
"Conditions fashioned for me?" Lily demanded.
"The soul reacts to pain, and anger, happiness and joy. All emotions. When a soul is placed inside a body destined to survive horrible disasters, like abandonment, rape, neglect, abuse, the soul absorbs the emotions and with a large soul, one too large for the body, it will wither away under the constriction and the body will die."
"A flower is put a very small pot, the sun feeds it, water makes it grow, but it dies because it can't stretch." Zane said, Lily glowered at her hands.
"My whole life I was supposed to go through this shit?"
"It shaped you to who you are now." Stew said. "It also means that you have a Soulmate." Lily glowered even more.
"Yay."
"So what now?" Lily asked, finally freeing her mind from the little 'Soulmate' bomb.
"We wait. This battle isn't truly a physical fight, for you. The Knight falls, you heal, you kill a chick, the King falls, the healer for some reason can't heal him, and the the Knight frees his mate and the world from evil."
Owen will have saved his mate, but what about Danny?
"All will be as it should, and there won't be any lingering darkness to haunt the world."
"So, there is nothing to worry about. What about Danny? Owen and Danny just got together, and you're telling me she's just going to be kicked to the curb?"
"Fates design isn't always so colorful." Stew warned.
"No, but I am." Lily growled.
This can't happen! How do you just let your friends heart break?
"What happened to your wife?" Lily asked.
"My father came back, and one look at me, he blew her brain out." Zane whispered.
"Who's your father?" Lily asked. What she had in mind, she wasn't sure. The man simply had to die, preferably because he found the bottom of the ocean with a little nick, gushing blood into hungry shark infested waters after being run over by a Mack truck, backed up, and hit with a baseball bat by a professional baseball player. Hopefully sharks chew their food.
"He has already been handled." Zane said with a grim tone. Stew nodded quietly in response.
"What am I supposed to do now?" Lily asked.
"Wait. You have to be patient for another week, and then you can go about your life how you were before."
"Except jail time for murder, and a Soulmate I don't know." Lily said pointedly.
"Simple, you get to know Zane, and then we cover up the murder like it never happened."
"My sister is married with kids, I don't think so." That made them both stop.
A little tickle in my chest made me wince. "That would be the souls connecting." Zane said quickly before turning back to his friend.
"The legend hinted at a girl closer to her age. Are we sure the Mutt kills?" Stew said.
"Damn right, I am not letting her get stabbed!"
"Face facts! Who is the sister?"
"I don't care, Lily kills. I can deal with that, her getting killed, fuck no." Zane roared the last bit.
"We are here to do a job." Stew said sternly.
"I am here to help Lily." Zane corrected. "Stepdad or no, I won't let this happen."
"You step out of line on this mission, your soul will be returned to Lily, you will be dead and so will she."
"I'd rather die than see it." He said loudly. Lily listened, and bit her lip. The van was parked in a Walmart parking lot, but no one was looking, the employees were just hoping to go home.
"I think I'll take you up on that offer." Lily said.
"What offer?" Stew asked irritated to be interrupted.
"To get to know him." Stew looked a little confused, but shrugged.
"With any luck well find the girl were looking for if you can learn more about her." Lily heard this, but she didn't truly care.
The boy was strange. His concern was so real, his fight and soul was so like her own, she was beginning to wonder what he was truly like.
The facts stood that Zane was destined to meet her, and share a piece of her. A little push in her heart, like a tug of a string told her that she would like where she ended up if she followed this boy.
They expected her to kill. Weather it be her blood sister, or a sister she hadn't found yet, there was only so much time left. Wasting it on fear, when the clock seemed to be counting down wasn't how she wanted this to go.
"It'll be fun." She added.
I hope I don't regret this . . .
