Her ears were able to pick up sounds she probably shouldn't have been able to, like the boot about forty yards away. . .

Her eyes trailed to the tall figure that had caused the sound.

Longer dark hair with a halo of sunlight, long sleeved grey shirt and stiff posture. The hands were pressed against the head in frustration or depression, which one was a mystery to her.

"Hey!" She called, taking a leap of faith in hopes for a friend. Laughter bubbles in her chest as the person jerked and looked around. Large vibrant green eyes locked on her and narrowed. The anger that took over . . . his, yes that was a boy, face made her stomach sink.

Shoulder down he stormed closer but she watched as his face softened as he got closer.

"Oh, I thought you were someone else at first." He slowed to a stop with a red blush on his cheeks.

Lily smiled. "That's fine. Who are you?" Meeting strangers was a little scary but it was easy if you look. . .

"Riven." He said with an easy smile. Lily looked up into him face, craning her neck to meet his amused eyes.

"So, are you new?" He asked.

"No, I'm a regular worker around here. Been here all summer."

His eyes trailed her and back up. "Did I really miss you all summer?"

Lily grinned. "Yeah, but I'll be back."

"So what's your-" His phone went off and Lily laughed. "Hold that thought, don't go anywhere." He said, he bent his knees and looked her in the eyes with his hands out in front. She nodded, a small smile stretched her lips. He wiped out his phone and answered. "Talk."

The buzz on the other end was too hard to hear. "No, I'm done with her."

He sighed. "I don't care." his eyes flashed with anger. "I'm done looking for her, she ran off she'll come back."

"She's fine, I'm at the park with a . . . friend."

Lily smiled slightly before looking away. "I'll be home when I'm home." The phone snapped close, and she looked at him as he stood there, shifting his weight.

Lily looked at the hill behind the cement stone path. The bridge shed crossed to get there crossed a river and Lily stepped and sat at the top of the hill. "Want to sit with me?"

She didn't have to ask twice, he plopped himself down and stared at her. His stare quickly made her cheeks burn and she glanced down.

She didn't usually get this flustered, and she didn't usually shy away. She glanced back up and the wind blew behind her screwing with her parted bangs. She looked at the piece and blew a breath at it, shaking her head to move it and then sighed in defeat.

An amused smile lit his face as he reached and brushed it away. A blush brightened her pale skin immediately.

"It doesn't want to stay." she said softly. Why was she acting like a little school girl?

"Yeah." his smile stretched.

Lily looked down and back gathering her wit. "So does your girlfriend like it when you do this?" She looked into his vibrant green eyes. He had a gorgeous face, and the long sleeved shirt showed quite a bit of muscle but it wasn't over powering. It was quite a nice look she had to admit.

"I don't have one." His voice was so soft as he spoke, butterflies assaulted her stomach.

"You can't tell me there isn't a line following you." She laughed gently. He winked at her good naturedly.

"Mm, I don't know. I went to a family reunion and one of my cousins wrote up my card and wrote my name, or I thought my name." he looked her in the eye to make sure she was listening. She smiled and nodded, waiting to see where this was going.

"I went almost the whole night and when my cousins girlfriend came up to me and asked if my name really was 'Good Lookin'" Lily took one second and then laughed. The mental image of his face when he realized this made her blush and laugh harder.

"Oh really now. So now I have to watch for your family too?"

He laughed. "I'm not that good looking." his voice fell an his eyes dropped. Lily watched his shoulders fall.

"You haven't looked in the mirror lately." Lily sighed. "Besides, it's not like I can judge." She offered.

The fact she lived with was . . . she'd lived with her ugly appearance, she'd been happy about it, but once you're ugly, it follows you. She'd never be beautiful, but she could pass for cute every once in a while.

He scowled. His phone vibrated and stopped his next comment. "Hold on."

He clicked on his phone before he looked up. "Do you want to come with me to see one of my friends?"

Lily glanced up and searched his face. What was he trying to say? Set her up? She sighed.

"Sure, let's go." She stood up and smiled at him, biting back her nerves.

He turned and walked and looked back to make sure she was still following. He lead her over the hill and through the children's playground and stopped at a fence end. He leaned against the post and smiled at her.

"So." She said feeling a little awkward.

"Dont worry he'll love you." The sound of tire squealing made Lily turn and look. The car screeched to a stop and the wind blew her hair into her face.

The windows rolled down and a pale, no gaunt face peeked out. He grinned, and his yellow teeth had black spots on them and Lily's smile turned fake.

"Who's the babe?" He asked.

"This is a friend . . ."

"Lily." She said quickly.

"Jump in, we have a scene to hit."

Riven opened the door for her and hopped in after her. "Bane, got a bong?" Riven asked.

Lily's heart sank as he was handed a clay smoke pipe. "Want some?" He offered. Lily shook her head and drew in a silent deep breath and held it as he lit it up.

She turned to look out the window and quickly rolled down the window. Anxiety hit her hard. "No. . ." She thought quick. "Asthma gets bad when around smoke and that stuff. I'm basically screwed for the fun stuff." Bane looked back and held the bong further away.

"Are you ok now?" He asked worriedly.

"I think I'll be ok." She told him calmly.

"If you don't feel good, let us know." Riven said worriedly.

She glanced at her phone and panicked. She couldn't have much time left, Bane hit the music and the rock blasted her ears and she groaned. This wasn't the greatest idea. . .
