Chapter 3

I didn’t see her the next day. The school was just as busy and noisy as the day before but my day was filled with disappointment. I didn’t know why I wanted to see her so badly. She was just so intriguing and I loved mysteries.

The werewolves were on an edge though. I noticed how calm and deadly silent Alec had been throughout the day. Both he and Logan been mind linking each other all day long either that or they were concentrating extremely hard on staring into blank space.

But I knew what I was supposed to know and what I wasn’t. This was the boundary. No more information was going to come from Alec.

I travelled down the same path as yesterday to the library. I had forgotten to borrow a book. The glass door chimed as I went in and the warm air hit me and my numb fingers were forgotten. I liked the cold, it was easier to deal with than the hot.

This library was small but had all my favourite books and I skimmed down the aisle to the end where the librarian couldn’t see me. The stone wall surrounded the edges of the room and from here I could see past the thick spines of fairy tale books to where blue couches were lined in a circle. The studying area was right next to it and few students sat there. The quiet room had a calming feeling and before I knew it I had let my guard down.

My muscles relaxed enough for the fingers that poked my side, had shot numbing pain messages to my brain. I clamped my hard over my mouth instinctively to stop my cry of alarm. A chuckle came from Logan and he slowly stepped from where he was leaning on a bookcase.

“You scared me.” I accused. I shouldn’t have let my guard down. That had really shocked me and now my sides hurt from laughing internally at my silly reaction.

“You should have seen how high you jumped.” Logan laughed quietly with a hand on his stomach. We were still in a library. Didn’t he know better than to scare someone outside?

“I didn’t jump.” My cheeks turned red. I was never going to live this down. Now he knew I could easily be scared and who knew what other pranks were going to happen in the future.

“Yes, you did.”

“No, I didn’t. I was simply turning around to… hit you.” I grabbed a book to reinforce my statement. That was a lame cover up. Could my cheeks get any warmer?

“Whatever.” Logan bit his hand to stop his loud laugh. “There was something I wanted to talk to you about.” Logan said suddenly, all humour was gone. I stepped back nervously. It wasn’t anything personal was it? Werewolves didn’t suddenly decided to talk to humans without a reason.

It wasn’t because we were mates was it? I quickly pinched myself.

No, it wasn’t. I hadn’t been developing any feelings for him. Yesterday was the first day I saw him up close. Oh no. Yesterday was the first he had actually seen me. What if I was right? I gulped. My back was already touching the stone cold wall but my body was so warm I hardly noticed.

“Sorry, can’t talk now. I have to get home.” My tongue jumbled around as I got the words out. I shoved the book at him and he reeled back in surprise. I took that to my advantage and quickly ran out of the library and to the waiting blue car.

“Hey, slow down Halo. Why were you running?” My mum slowly turned on the car engine, her eyes were still on her phone. What was so special about that phone? Luckily Logan didn’t come running down the pebbly path and the school was slowly shrinking as we got further away from it.

“Ithinkaguywastryingtoconfesshislovetome.” I breathed out as fast as I possibly could. I couldn’t lie to my mum. She’d be able to tell but if I told her the truth really fast she wouldn’t be able to understand.
