Chapter 2

Logan didn’t spare me a glance, I didn’t expect him too but the girl did. She stumbled after him as he pulled her roughly towards the parking lot. The warm enticing air from the library breezed past me, reminding me of why I was there but I continued to watch Logan. What was he doing?

Instead of heading towards carpeted area with chairs and books, I headed for the pebbly path to the parking lot where a few cars dotted around on bitumen ground. The girl struggled feebly before her arm suddenly went slack. Logan wast holding her arm hard so I had a feeling of what was about to happen. Logan turned around too late and when his grip loosened in surprise, the girl had already whirled around and slammed the heel of her palm into his face. Logan let go in surprise and she kicked out her leg and her foot connected with his kneecap. She quickly brought her knee up as her hands grabbed Logan’s shoulders and kneed Logan’s groin. He cried out in pain and struggled back to his feet.

I held a hand to my mouth, wondering if I should scream. I didn’t know what was happening. I didn’t get a chance to think because the girl was running straight at me. Why was she doing that? Did she think I was his accomplice or something?

Before I could utter a word saying that I had no idea what was going on, she had crouched down in front of me. I tensed behind the bush I was hiding behind. Why had I gotten myself into this mess?

“Hey, are you okay?” She asked helping me up. I was too surprised by her behaviour to stand up by myself.

“I don’t understand.” I stammered. I was so confused. What was going on?

“It’s okay, I’m fine and he’s… sort of fine.” She gave him a short glance before ushering me away from the car park.

“What’s going on?” I asked. She seemed to have a better grip on all of this than I did.

“Don’t tell anyone what happened. I’m fine and he’s fine and everyone’s happy. Got it?” She said, her eyes glared at me and I nodded weakly. For pretty features, she could look very menacing when she wanted to.

“I’m Halo.” I introduced myself. That was all my brain was capable of saying. If she was going to tell me what was going on then we might as well get to know each other.

“I’m Teya. Nice to meet you.” She grinned. “I’m sorry I can’t tell you everything but here’s a warning. Don’t trust us.”

“What do you mean?” I frowned. What did she mean by us? And why couldn’t I trust her? “Teya.” I called out but she was walking away. I couldn’t even try to follow her as she had already disappeared past the corner of a blue building.

“Hey! Where’d she go?” A panting sound came from my elbow. I turned to see Logan panting. Teya must’ve had a really hard knee.

“Are you ok?” I asked hesitantly. He was a werewolf and letting his prey get away was sure going to damage his pride and if he got too angry he could end up shifting. That was according to Alec.

“I’m fine.” He turned to glare at me. “Are you helping her?”

“What?” I gulped. His eyes bore down on me and I couldn’t break his creepy gaze. “I’ve never met her before.” I said, my palms feeling sweaty as if I was doing something wrong.

“Hey! What’s going on?” Alec came with his car engine still running, he jumped out and ran up the pebbly path to where I stood a few feet away from the green hiding bush. “Logan, are you scaring her?” Alec glanced at me quickly and then back to Logan. His dark brown hair partially shielded the intense gaze of his eyes. It was like a quiet moment and I knew they were mind linking each other. Telepathy in other words but it only connected their pack.
