Chapter 26
Teya's POV
My knuckles cracked loudly, gaining the attention of Alec and Logan. Finally.
I had tried pestering, nagging, poking, hitting and throwing a tantrum but knuckle cracking brought their attention to me. I didn't even want to know why this had caught their attention.
"What?" Logan snapped.
"Could someone please tell me what's going on?" I huffed in annoyance. First they had dragged me downstairs to the kitchen and seated me there. Alec had ran to find his parents and was holding an impromptu meeting through their pack mind link. One which I was excluded from. Possibly because Alec still felt betrayed over the mobile phone fiasco.
"No." Logan scowled and turned his back towards me.
"Alec..." I pleaded desperately. They had Halo, I deserved to hear what was going on. She was my friend too.
"I..." Alec gave me a frown that made something in my chest crack a little. That pain was what I deserved for not telling him the truth but the logical part of my brain told me I was doing the right thing. However, I knew there wasn't just one right path, there were many. I might have chosen one that didn't exactly end in my favour.
"Just let her... We finished all the important discussions with the council already and if she keeps hitting those pans... She's going back to the cell!" Alec's mum threatened me indirectly but it didn't at all sound scary coming from a model mum who was wearing a shiny dress and a thick layer of make up on her face.
"Thanks Mrs..." I smiled at her cheerfully.
"Don't 'mrs' me! I still don't trust you." Alec's mum snapped.
"Okay..." I muttered warily. She was going to have a hard time accepting that Alec and I were mates not that either of us had accepted it yet. He was still keeping a huge distance between us.
I pulled the squeaky chair I had been sitting on closer to the table they were gathered around. From this view I could now see that Logan's parents were sitting side by side and an absent third in command. Brodie too, was nowhere to be seen which I was duly grateful for.
"First off, I want to confirm whether the werewolves I ordered to watch Halo are dead or missing." Alec asked. His voice was hardened by his determination, his eyes didn't stray away from the table but I could feel the conflicting emotions inside of him even if he didn't show it.
"They're missing, we couldn't find their bodies and they haven't answered the mind link." Logan's dad answered.
"Okay so we can assume the rogues have kidnapped them." Alec posed the sentence more like a question. His father nodded. So they were treating this like a trial run? Did that mean they were underestimating the rogues? That wasn't the best plan to go with. You had to expect the unexpected with the rogues.
"For the ransom they want us to meet them at the top of this mountain. Halo will be up there and hopefully the werewolves who I assigned to be her watchers." Alec sighed with defeat already guessing their plan. "While the negotiations are taking pace, the other rogues are going to attack us right?" Alec gave me a look of question. I nodded, glad that he was valuing my opinion.
"Wait, what negotiations?" I asked in confusion. No one had told me anything.
"I called Halo's mum before and she told me about a note left in her bedroom. It was signed by the rogues and they wanted us to negotiate Halo's release in return for some land and pack members. That's what the note said according to Halo's mum." Alec explained. He really should have informed me sooner but to think that Anton would stoop so low to kidnap Halo. I didn't expect that at all. I just hoped that they were treating her right.
