Chapter 9
The girl smiled down at the sleeping Alpha, she had done her best. Her little hands had ripped at her birthday dress, ruining the layers of ruffles. Alec lay on the ground covered in white lace bandages and pink patches where she had tried to stop the blood. Alec looked awfully pale and his breathing wasn't normal. His breathing was all over the place.
The grass was no longer green but a dark red. She had never disliked the colour red before but now it filled her with sorrow and hate. She hated this war. It was stupid and useless. Why was there all this fighting?
She furiously wiped her tears away. There was no point crying about it. She had to find a way to heal Alec. Determination coursed through her. Lifting him up would be too heavy and he'd be in too much pain. She was too far away from any of the pack doctors or medic teams and she couldn't ask for help. She couldn't tell who the rogues were and who weren't.
The girl pursed her lips tighter, a habit she had developed when she was thinking hard. She didn't know why she wanted to help him so much but it was as if an insane pull was tugging at her heart. She couldn't leave him to die not with so much blood dripping from him after he had risked his life to save her.
Blood... The girl looked at her hands. She couldn't even see her skin colour, both her hands were red. She pushed that thought to the back of her mind. Instead she focused her knowledge on all she knew about werewolves. Blood? Something triggered in that back of her mind but even if it was a crazy idea, she couldn't risk Alec dying. It couldn't possibly harm him more.
Without a second thought she had grabbed one of Alec's hands. He hadn't managed to shift fully back to human. His teeth were still sharp and his nails were as pointy as claws. She dug a talon into her arm and felt the flesh split down the line. Red spilled from the seams like a bag bursting and she held it to Alec's lips. She saw his throat swallow as the red lines trailed down into his mouth and she watched, mesmerised.
Alec was drinking and his flesh started to knit back together. It was working. She kept the blood flowing until his wounds had closed over. Her own skin had begun its own regeneration.
"What did you do?" Alec roused from the ground and barely choked out his words.
"I just gave you some blood but you have to rest." The girl lightly pushed Alec back down.
"Well at least you're okay." Alec murmured and rested his head to look at the sky.
"It's all thanks to you."
"It's not over yet. The war is still going on." The girl listened carefully and sure enough the sound and wolves howling and people screaming were repeating over and over again. The girl's heart stopped when she heard a sound. The sound of pain and a bloodcurdling scream.
The girl froze in place. She couldn't move. That scream belonged to her family. She had to go find them. They could be in serious trouble. But she couldn't just leave Alec on his own. He hadn't fully regained his strength yet.
As if luck was on her side, a face peered between the trees. A girl with black hair and a first aid box clutched in her hands. She was panting as if she had just run a long way.
"Who are you?" The girl asked cautiously.
"I'm Halo." The girl hiding behind the trees replied softly. "I was watching the fight before and I wanted to help but he's a werewolf, right? I saw him turn into a wolf."
The girl stood up to face Halo. She looked innocent enough and she doubted Halo could hurt Alec anyway and she was a human.
"What do you know about werewolves?" The girl asked suspiciously.
"Not much. Just what I saw." Halo answered shyly.
"That's ok. Can you look after him? His name is Alec. I have to go but I'll be back." The girl stood up hurriedly. "I'll be back Alec." She whispered to him and he nodded. Halo slowly shuffled forward, ignoring the body of the werewolf from before.
"I'll look after him." Halo said. This would just have to do. The girl didn't have any time to spare and jumped up. She ran back into the forest towards the sounds of battle cry.
