Chapter 8
"Alec?" The girl tugged Alec back a few steps out of my hearing range and started whispering furiously. Arms waved around but Alec didn't move, just frowned while his face turned red with exasperation. They weren't mind linking which disturbed me unless the girl was from a different pack. That would explain it. I didn't realise two different packs went to this school.
"Look, it doesn't matter anymore. What's done is done. She's known this secret since primary school. It's not like we can wipe her memory anyway." Alec turned to stiffly walk back to me. The girl trailed behind him, her hands shaking.
"Well, umm... Hi. I'm Halo." I extended my hand out for the blonde haired girl to shake. She glared at me as if I were an annoying bug that wouldn't go away.
"Ainslie, be nice. Halo meet Ainslie." Alec introduced. "Ainslie's my girlfriend." Ainslie didn't stop her glaring and my hand fell down to my side. Ainslie didn't look like she was going to warm up to me yet.
"You're not mates?" I asked. Alec had specifically said girlfriend even though he knew that I knew about the whole mating thing. Ainslie looked shocked again.
"Exactly how much have you told her?" Ainslie growled.
"Not much." I assured Ainslie but she gave me a look that could kill.
"You just shut your mouth." She spat. I bit my bottom lip, why was she this angry? It wasn't like any of this concerned her. Alec gave me an apologetic look.
"I've told her quite a bit. She wanted to know and this was ages ago so don't worry about it." Alec explained.
"Yeah? And what's going to happen now when other packs realise that you have a weakness. They'll find out that this little human has a soft spot on you and then we're all doomed." Ainslie growled. She jabbed a finger at Alec but he stayed put.
"It's none of your concern. You're not in my pack so don't worry about it." Alec said. That confirmed it. So they weren't in the same pack.
"Does that mean you don't want me to join your pack? Don't you understand that I'm worried about your safety?" Ainslie shouted. Her face scrunched up and I could tell she looked hurt. She really loved Alec.
"I didn't mean it that way." Alec quickly tried to cover up his mistake but it was too late. Ainslie stormed off, leaving behind a trail of dust and floating leaves. "Darn it." Alec rubbed his face.
"But you're not mates?" I was confused. I thought all werewolves didn't have any serious relationships until they found their mates but this one looked serious. Or at least Ainslie treated it seriously.
"True but I'm sick of waiting for my mate. Ainslie and I have been friends for ages so it kind of just happened from there. She hasn't found her mate either."
"What happens when you do find your mate?"
"I don't know. I probably won't but I'll think about it when it happens." Alec dismissed the thought with a wave of his hand. His mind was probably on other things. Other things that were more important than finding a mate right now.
"This has something to do with rogues right?"
"Yes, and I should start taking Ainslie's advice. I shouldn't be talking about this with you. And you need to start taking my advice. Stay away from all werewolves especially Teya." Alec grabbed my shoulders. He shouldn't be talking to me about werewolves? So he was just going to listen to Ainslie? Did that mean I wasn't allowed to talk to him about werewolves either? That meant I didn't have to tell him about that odd guy lurking in my backyard?
"I'll tell Logan to stop bothering you too. From now on, don't expect me to talk to you. It's for your own safety." Alec said softly. He gave me a brief hug and I was glad when the bell went and all the students rushed to class. At least no one would see us in the shade of the trees. He was like an older brother and I felt sad to see him go. As if I would never see him again. He gave me a pat on my head and went to his own class.
Teya's POV
My hands clenched together so tight that I almost lost my grip on the hard metal sheets. Don't ask me why I was sitting on the roof but I was. And boy was the school roof old. It was rusty and covered in fungi. I shook my hand to get off the icky feeling but it still lingered. I couldn't wait to get off but until then I was stuck and suffering under the hottest heat ever. Why was I on the roof?
I groaned, next time I would have to find a really tall tree or something but the problem was, werewolves' sense of smell was so strong the Alpha of Starlight pack would sense me spying on him in a heartbeat. So I was stuck on the roof and turning into a roast chicken. I wouldn't be surprised if I started melting.
I peered over the side and winced as some hot metal poked me in the arm. I was going to get so many blisters as well.
I spotted the Alpha on the football field with all his friends. I sniffed once, they were all werewolves. Typical of them to hang in particular groups. Weren't they ever curious as to what being friends with a human was like? It was odd or was it just Halo that was odd? Anyway I had to spend my day trying to not to forget she wasn't a werewolf. My tongue almost slipped several times.
Bringing my mind back to reality, Alpha Alec was heading this way. I pulled myself a little closer to see through the green leaves. I spied the short black hair and realised Halo was there. What was she doing? I tilted my head so I could listen better. I caught snippets of their conversations.
They were talking about me! So Halo did know about werewolves and instead of being close to Logan, she was close to Alec. That was even better for me. I felt the sun beat down on my legs. I was going to get skin cancer if this lasted too long.
I frowned as a new smell came along. This smell didn't belong to the same pack as Starlight pack and it smelt like the librarian. A neighbouring pack. I racked my brains for the name. Volcano? Something that comes out of a volcano something? Flower, leaf? Rose? Something to do with rose. Petals? Something that comes out of a volcano petal sounded funny.
I got it. Ash Thorn. I shrieked slightly as I skidded down the side of the roof.
My hands had lost their grip for a second and my feet hooked onto the edge of the roof. I swayed dangerously off the edge of the roof with my whole body dangling upside down. I was in a bad position. I looked back up and in that moment did I appreciate all the workouts I was put through and the flexibility training. I stretched up to reach my feet so I made a whole oval with my body and quickly switched my weight from my feet to my hands so I dangled by my fingers instead. So at least if I fell, I'd land on my feet instead of my face.
Although as I glanced down, I wouldn't mind landing on that girl's face. The girl with that immaculate blonde hair and pretty blue eyes that resembled the ocean. She held onto Alec's arm as if they were mates. They weren't. She was going to have her heart broken when Alec realised who his mate was. She just annoyed me.
I listened a little longer, I couldn't make my presence known. They still didn't like rogues. Alec and the girl whose name was Ainslie argued and talked. Why couldn't they talk faster? My arms were sore. I was going to fall soon if they didn't leave.
Finally didn't come soon enough. I waited until they finished the conversation and they hugged. Really? Was Alec not going to talk to Halo ever again? That was rather harsh. And Halo was never supposed to see me.
I dropped to the ground after they disappeared into class. My poor fingers. Oh that was painful. I flexed my fingers feeling the muscles that had become really stiff.
Now I had come to a decision that I had to talk to Alec. He was not going to restrict Halo from seeing me.
I actually can't believe that I have 45 reads when just a while back I was stuck on 13 so this is making me really happy.
Please comment or vote, whichever one suits you and tell me what you think. Do you mind me putting in different point of views?
Or should I put in chapter titles? Thinking about it but not sure.
