Chapter 6

"You smell funny." Alec sniffed and frowned. I knew werewolves had heightened senses so I had changed into another pair of my school uniform but I didn't know exactly how precise it was.

"No I don't." I said. I still hadn't made up my mind and spent most of last night tossing and turning. To the extent that I had forgotten I had a maths test today. The brick wall felt cool on my back and from where we were standing, trees stood in a defensive line behind Alec. It blocked off the view of the main road but you could still hear the cars whizzing by.

"You do." Alec cocked his head to one side, he still hadn't figured it out yet. What would he do if he did find out?

"So what did you want to talk about?" I asked and shifted uncomfortably. Even if these occasions were rare, I was still uncomfortable with him sniffing me.

"Logan came to talk to me yesterday." Alec started and my body froze. What did Logan tell Alec? Was it that I was his mate and I was continuously avoiding him? I couldn't help it, every time I spied him in the distance I would run off to the opposite direction.

"And?" I asked hesitantly.

"You ran away from him. He thinks you're hiding something." Was Alec implying that he thought I was hiding something too? I wasn't really hiding anything, just that I had seen Teya again but that was after I saw Logan and that meant it didn't count.

"I'm not." I exhaled, at least it wasn't about the mate stuff. I didn't think I was ready for it.

"Then why are you avoiding him?"

"Because you told me not to get involved with werewolf business." I blurted and only after did I realise the genius of my cover up. I was pretty proud as I had managed to take a jab at Alec which didn't happen often.

"Okay, point taken. However if you see anything you have to tell me." Alec ordered and I nodded my head. He didn't make me promise, I thought to myself. "I'll see you around and don't forget to answer your phone." Alec stalked off just like an Alpha. Why were they always like this? I never had a decent conversation with him for long.

"Not going to happen." I called out but he had already disappeared. I brought my books closer to my body suddenly feeling lonely. It clung to me for the rest of the day. Teya didn't show up. I didn't expect her to but that didn't stop my turning my head towards the door every time it opened.

Humming lightly, I packed my school bag to go home. I might go to the park for a jog. Alec wasn't likely going to accompany me to the woods so the park it was.

"Yo!" A voice startled me, the book slipped from my fingers. I dreaded the thought of picking it back up but I still watched it fall but it didn't hit the ground. It never made it. The green text book was easily caught by a male hand that belonged to Logan. I tensed slightly. Why was Logan here?

"Uh, umm..." I stuttered. What was I supposed to say? "Thanks?" I took the book and avoided his eyes and any contact. Just a precaution but he wasn't saying anything.

"Why did you run away from me?" He asked. His body leaned casually against the lockers and his head nodded towards a group of werewolves passing by. The group of girls giggled before walking off.

"Because..." I trailed off, I might have overreacted and thought you were my mate. I couldn't say that out loud. My cheeks flamed, especially if those girls had heard, they'd think I was insane.

"Hello? You're zoning out." Logan snapped his fingers in front of my face.

"Why are you talking to me?" I asked, hoping I didn't sound snappish because then he'd go back to Alec and complain about me being rude. Then maybe he would leave me alone though. That was an interesting thought.

"You didn't answer my question."

"And I never will." I glanced at my watch. My mum would freak out if I was late.

I dashed out with my school bag wildly swinging from my shoulders and my text book clutched to my chest. I heard Logan start to come after me but I dodged between the groups of people waiting in a long line for the bus. One of the perks of being small. I stumbled on the curb that ended at the end of the street which led to the teacher's carpark. Logan had finally given up, I could see his tiny figure throwing his hands up exasperatedly before stalking to retrieve his own school bag.

I grinned to myself and resisted the urge to stick out my tongue even if his back was facing me. Two girls had outrun him twice this week. He was going to be in a bad mood.

"You're in a good mood today." My mum glanced up at me from her texting.

"Yeah, I guess." I murmured.

"You're not going to tell me about it?" My mum feigned shock. I laughed but didn't reply. There was no way I was going to tell her about today, especially if it involved Teya. My mum would not be happy knowing that I was talking to a werewolf stranger who had been in our backyard.

I watched the trees whiz past after the traffic light flicked to green. Would Logan come seeking me tomorrow? What would I say to him? It wasn't like I could avoid him forever and we did have a few classes together. Although now I knew he wasn't my mate because he would have said something so that was a comfort.

The car slowly turned into our street where trees grew tall, almost towering over all the houses. Small hedges and large fences surrounded each individual territory reminding me of werewolves. Everything reminded me of werewolves these days. It was becoming an unhealthy obsession.

Something flickered between the trees behind the houses. There was a large forest that I knew was empty territory. I peered closer and saw a flash of grey or was it white. The car turned into the driveway and the forest was replaced by the cold stone garage.

It must have been my imagination or it could have been Alec. I never knew what he was thinking. I heaved my school bag onto my shoulders and a gust of wind blew my skirt up. No one saw, our street was deserted. So much for friendly neighbours. It was however much too cold for a jog to the park. There went my after school plans.

"Mum, I'm going to be in my room." I called out. I wanted something to do, homework just seemed like a chore and I was bored. Too bored for homework. Pulling myself up the stairs, I settled onto my bed.

Soon I had a book in hand but it didn't grasp my attention. The wind howling was too distracting and there was no sunlight to give me warmth. I shut the book in defeat. I really needed to get more involved in something. Anything. Maybe a...

My thoughts cut off as I saw it again. A blur of grey. It stopped behind some trees that swayed dangerously but didn't topple. I leaned forward hoping I could catch a good glimpse of it. My bedroom had the best view that faced directly outside to the backyard. I waited, my fingers curled around the desk. He came into view. I sucked air through my teeth.

Black hair with white dyed ends. It was such a different contrast. Lean body and he was only wearing a pair of jeans with his back facing me. Through the foggy glass which I never had a chance to clean, I caught a glance of his face. Dark eyes and lips pursed into a frown but his face looked so perfect. I watched him, mesmerised as he poked along the trees until he found the clothes stashed in tree from Teya.

He put the clothes back in and shifted, bones cracking and clothes tearing he turned into a wolf. I was at all surprised but still. What was he doing there? Why had he wanted to find the clothing? Was he someone Alec had sent to do a background check on Teya? But he didn't look like anyone from the pack and more menacing. I rubbed my eyes tiredly and watched the beautiful grey and white wolf leap in the forest.

I didn't realise it but my heart had been racing since the moment I had seen him.

Why is there not many reads? Just a question that's been on my mind, like forever. Not to be rude to whoever's reading or anything. Well if you do read; thank you and if you glance at the first chapter and then go nope, not reading this and leave the page. You wouldn't have made it this far but please take a chance and continue reading...

It won't get any better unless you comment and tell me what I need to work on.

Other than that, if you decided to continue reading, I am so grateful to you.
