"What the hell are you doing here?" I demanded, finally regaining my composure. "Get the fuck off my porch!"

"No," Diedre defiantly fought, "you heard me. I'm not leaving until I talk to him."

I narrowed my eyes.

"Well, he isn't here."

She raised a perfect brow, unwilling to believe me.

"You're lying."

What? Did this mean that she had no idea Hero had left town?

Well, fuck. That was one thing he'd been honest about.

"I'm telling the damn truth." I spit through my teeth. "This may make your afternoon, but he never loved me. He left a day ago."

I expected her to jump in joy at this revelation, but all I could see on her plastic face was worry.

Deep rooted fear I'd never seen her showcase.

"This is very strange." She said. "As much as I hate to admit it... he wouldn't leave like this."

I blinked, a sudden thought occurring to me.

"A bit funny you're turning up to my house now?"

Diedre tightened the strap of her purse, digging her heels into the concrete.

"For your information, I've been trying to find this dump for a few weeks. I wasn't going to let someone like you keep me away."

I snorted.

"Yet, you couldn't show to your own daughter's funeral."

A long minute of silence passed before she could come up with a witty response.

"You were?"

For some reason this ignited a fire within me. My allegiance to my late mother in law hadn't waigned. I wouldn't forget her last words to me.

Ever.

"Yes." I snapped. "I was. She was a wonderful woman. It broke my heart to see her go."

Diedre folded her arms, forming a nasty smile on her face.

"You were glad to see her go. My dear daughter hated you."

This caused me to press up against her chest, closing the door behind me.

"How dare you speak so negatively about her memory! If you could take her place-! God... you're so self absorbed!"

Diedre had the decency to shove me back.

"Don't touch me, you whore! If you dont want my help that's fine but don't assault me!"

I retreated, eyeing her warily.

"You want to help?"

She rolled her eyes.

"Of course I do. Unlike you, I haven't given up."

This made me flinch. I hadn't even thought about how strange the circumstances had been. I'd chalked it up to him falling out of love.

"What's your plan?"

Diedre wrapped a shawl around herself.

"I'd like a place to sit and some mild tea if you don't mind."

I huffed, opening the door again. She made her way past me taking a seat at the kitchen island. I scuttled around, finally setting a bottled sparkling water in front of her, earning a glower.

I shrugged.

"Sorry. I haven't sent my housekeepers out for much groceries."

Granted, this was a lie but I wasn't about to tell her that.

After taking a small sip, her expression turned grim.

"What's the last thing you two spoke of before he left?"

I quickly racked my brain. In all honesty we hadn't talked much before he made it clear we were done. Only the night before, we had been at that sex dungeon.

Oh boy...

Despite me needing to be honest, I decided to be petty.

"We didn't need to do much talking," I began, a smile curling my lips, "we mostly tied each other up, along with a few other things."

I didn't find the need to finish. I got my point across clearly enough.

Diedre chuckled threateningly.

"You think I don't know what you're doing?"

I batted my lashes innocently.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

She simply stood.

"That vagina of yours isn't magic, you know. I've always been confused to what alluring quality you have. Could it be the red hair or... the challenging attitude?"

She made her way to the front door, holding tightly on the knob.

"You may have just fucked your relationship and I didn't have to do a thing."

Then she left.
