I didn't have a choice in the matter as Tawnee rushed me to the hospital. There was no reason to defy her. I'd been sick as of late and wanted to get the necessary antibiotics. Maybe I had the common stomach bug or something a bit more serious like constipation.
Who knew.
Well, the doctors definitely would.
It was a quick affair to the first room available. I had a feeling my last name had something to do with the rushed service, but I let it go. I didn't have enough energy in me to fight. I just wanted to grab the medication and book it back to the office.
While waiting, Tawnee and I made small talk about how Garrick was and how life was for them.
It seemed Jo and Niall's marriage was doing better than expected. Even many months later, their honeymoon phase hadn't worn off. They all did their best to plan breakfasts and dinners together and Tawnee was even trying to convince Josephine to rid of her birth control or any form of protection.
"I'd like some grandkids in the very near future!" She'd exclaimed.
This made me frown. I'd been such a bitch to my parents and I would never have that opportunity with Hero. That ship had sailed.
"What's wrong dear?" Tawnee asked, moving my bangs off my forehead.
I cursed myself mentally for not hiding my emotions well.
"Oh... nothing. I just... Hero..."
I didn't need to finish my sentence. She knew me enough.
"Oh, honey," She enveloped me in her delicate arms, pressing her lips to my scalp, "I am so sorry. Did you and him every discuss children? I know your parents would have adored that idea."
I sniffled, wiping my nose.
"I wanted kids. Hero... He did but didn't. He still had a lot of things to sort out in his personal life."
Tawnee nodded, looking like she wanted to apologize all over again.
"I can only imagine. He had so much he was going through and I never suspected a thing. For that, I will be forever regretful. My dear girl, you will have the chance someday. Perhaps sooner rather than later. You'll meet a decent man and he'll accept it all in stride."
I knew she said this to be comforting, but it only caused me more pain. It solidified the fact that I would never be with Hero ever again.
"Have you heard... from him at all?" I tried.
Her features grew grim.
"No. Not a word, my dear. I'm sorry."
I was about to break down and suffocate here and now, but the click of the door halted me. A gorgeous woman with dark skin and bright eyes walked in clutching a clipboard to her chest. She grinned broadly, putting me on the edge of my seat. That... was an odd expression for what I'd come in for.
She must have been in the wrong room.
I straightened on the table I lay across.
"Doctor... how's it look?"
She shrugged.
"Everything seems fine. I'll give you some Tylenol and Benadryl for the pain and sickness. Oh, and before I forget, let me give you my congratulations."
I furrowed my brows together, though Tawnee seemed to have lost control of her jaw.
"My, do you not know? Mrs. Tiffin, you're pregnant."
