"Shh." I whispered as my daughter whined in the carrier. "Daddy will figure out that we left. I want to show you something."

The display of affection Hero had shown for us had been so endearing. Never in a million years did I think that he would go to such lengths, yet here we were.

After a few minutes of crying and blubbering like an idiot, he'd excused himself to speak with Ezekiel. Over the past few months he'd grown close to the guy and it was honestly a godsend.

Hero didn't have many friends and it was nice to see.

Nevertheless, I decided a breather was needed. Across the road was an expansive stretch of trees and beyond the mass was a view of the moon high in the sky with its many stars glittering brightly.

"Do you see that?" I asked, pointing. "Isn't it pretty?"

Eleanor began to swing her legs back again, gurgling softly, but then her coos became more energetic.

"What is it sweetheart?"

I laughed at the behavior, thinking it obviously adorable, but after a minute it was clear she wasn't even staring in the general direction of the moon.

What-?

I looked behind me where her gaze was settled, but didn't see anything.

"Gammy!

My head snapped back after hearing this come out of her mouth. Tears gathered in my eyes as I stared at the magnificent girl in my hold.

"Sweetheart... You said your first word. Say it again?"

"Gammy!" She screamed again, clapping her hands. "Gammy!"

I didn't know why, but I turned again. Although this time, my words got stuck in my throat.

No. It couldn't be-

At first glance, it looked like Diedre staring, making me tighten my hold on Eleanor, but as I got a better look...

"Dorinda?"

As if to confirm my suspicions my daughter cried out:

"Gammy!"

The fluorescent figure staring out from under the darkness sent us a bright smile then reluctantly turned towards the trees.

Still feeling the aftershocks of what had happened I set a hand over my chest. Dorinda was dead yet...

Had that been her ghost coming to visit one last time?

I grinned at the prospect.

"Sweet Eleanor, that was indeed your grandma. We may have had our differences but she was the most exhilarating and bravest woman I've ever known."

Looking back towards the crowded venue, I pinched her chubby cheeks.

"What do you say we head back and start on our piece of forever, little one?"
