HERO'S POV

I slammed my fist down on the nearby table. Fuck! Two months. It had been two months since we planned to return to Chico, though we'd barely managed to do more than sit on our asses.

Leon was beginning to piss me off with his underhanded attitude as well as his damned female cohort that insists she go unnamed.

"Would you calm down, you fucking meathead?" said cohort demanded at me lazily.

"No!" I shouted, shoving Leon's hand off me. "It's been four damn months since I've seen my wife. Not to mention she's in danger."

The woman raised a bushy brow at me, the fucking cavewoman.

"Are you sure she's your wife, player boy? Especially after you dumped her like leftovers to move states."

That was it. She'd crossed a line.

As my hands went for her throat, Leon blocked my advances with a beefy arm.

"Enough, Trudy. Do not instigate him."

At the woman's disgusted expression, I grinned. So, Trudy was her name.

Perfect.

"Trudy," I tested, "Interesting. Definitely tame for a neandertal like you."

She pointed a crooked finger at me.

"Watch it, Tiffin!"

"ENOUGH!" Leon screeched, his entire body lifting and rising with his anger. "You both have been at each other's throats and I am sick of it!"

Trudy glowered.

"You heard what he said; he's not cut out to do this swat business. Just let him go home!"

When Leon didn't respond, I stepped in.

"Excuse me, but that's not what I meant! I am still on board with taking down that monster rapist. I just want to arrive home before my wife can make a monumental mistake."

Leon rubbed the back of his neck.

"Let's backtrack-"

Trudy let out a snort, but Leon went on.

"You can't go back just yet, Hero. It's too much of a risk. The media on your wife's side are too active. Either you move another state away to a safe house while we wait out the captain or you stay with us. I'm keeping tabs on him and he should be making his move any day now."

I wanted nothing more than to say to hell with it and make my move to Chico anyhow, but I knew that this situation was bigger than even I could understand.

Plus, Trudy would enjoy my departure so fuck that.

"Fine," I snapped, "I'll stay."

I didn't miss the way Trudy's mouth twisted.

DIEDRE'S POV

Things were not going as planned. His plans always went as smoothly as possible, but even I could see that he was losing control. The beatings or lessons as he called them, became more frequent.

It was supposed to be easy: Grab ahold of Kristina like he had with Dorinda and have his way with her for many years to come.

Hero was gone and would never return. Unfortunately, kidnapping that fraternity slut hadn't been part of the arrangement. If she hadn't pried, she would have been nothing of consequence.

I had been flabbergasted when I saw her at the warehouse. No strings- that was what he had told me from a young age. When taking what he wanted he never included anyone that might make him fall.

But threats from some trust fund baby and he had caved.

Why was it so important that he acquire stupid, lonely Kristina... no. I wouldn't associate our family name with her. Ever.

Why couldn't he go for another college girl? There were plenty that had a fetish for old men.

But then, if he let her go, my dear loving grandson might come back.

No-

Out of nowhere, my phone began buzzing. knowing exactly who it was, I answered the call.

"Hello?"

"Diedre." the gravelly voice replied.

I took a deep breath.

"Do I need to be decent? Must I expect another lesson?"

Please, no.

"No," He said, taking me by surprise, "I have a plan to move forward. Kylie serves no purpose for me. After I get what I want, she will be no more."

"Wait!" I shouted not sure what I was interrupting for. "Why... I mean... have you done anything besides..."

I couldn't finish my sentence.

"Not yet, but I plan to do much more."

Thank you all so much for reading.

It's what keeps me going.
