My Pups Shield Me

CH: 28

Marie took a seat at her hardly ever used dinner table after making sure the pups had food and water still. After a few minutes of everyone having been able to eat a few bites, Marie thought she would start up a conversation(the quicker she had answers, the quicker she could kick them out later). "So Declan. Tell me a bit about yourself." She started with something that should be pretty simple to answer. Declan paused between bites before wiping his face and asking, "uh... Well what would you like to know?" Now Marie being Marie would normally walk away from said stupidity before it spreads to her. Unfortunately, she does care for her sister(no matter how annoying and overbearing she can be) so she will have to force her way through the rest of this conversation. Letting out an irritated sigh, Marie tried again. "What do you like? Do you have hobbies? Siblings? Do you go to school or have a job, things like that?" As she reached the end of her questioning, she noticed out the corner of her eye, Jess make a wincing face at the last bit. THAT was a red flag, if that wasn't a clear red flag then Marie doesn't know what is! Declan sat up straight before he started to answer. "Well uh... I like to watch football and basketball. I'm not really sure if this would be a hobby, but I like to go clothes shopping. I luckily do not have any siblings. And no I'm not in school right no and no I do not currently have a job." He finished before continuing to eat his food. Jess was already avoiding eye contact when Marie looked over at her. When Jess finally gave in from the intense staring, she peeked up to see Marie... And her left eye was twitching! Now Jess might be the older sister. The one who's more outgoing and a total extrovert. Marie is well... Not. But what she IS, Marie is the one who always looks after her sister because she knows how Jess is. She knows that Jess will go for anyone who shows her even the slightest bit of interest as long as they fall within 3 certain categories.

-They have to be taller then her
-They have to dress nice
-They have to fawn over her

Marie knows her sister is the type of girl who feels like she has to always be in a relationship. She knows that when Jess is in between relationships she gets depressed and feels like she unwanted. What's worse is that Marie has no idea where her sister got this mindset from. Their mother was a fairly strong and independent woman. When her husband up and left them, their mother didn't mope around or went hunting for a new man. She did her job, took care of her daughters, and eventually found love when she was ready for it again. When their mom and step dad passed away, Marie cleaned out their house, sold it and split the money between her and Jess. She used the money to get her own place and start up her own online store. Jess... Well Jess just didn't seem to know what to do with her life. She practically blew through the money. When that ran out she got a job at her favorite high end clothing store so she could get their special employee discount. As far as Marie knows, her sister spends her days working just to shop all her money away. When Jess isn't shopping she seems to be out boyfriend hunting. It's like her sister had this need for fulfilment and yet she actively does things that only bring her disappointment in the end.

Shaking her head to get back on track, Marie turned back to Declan. She couldn't understand how her sister could choose this idiot to be the one to introduce her to. He likes sport. Jess HATES sports. He has no siblings and apparently is greatful for that? And to top it all off  he is NOT in school NOR does he have a job. NOR does it look like he plans on getting one either. Marie has let her sister do a lot of things in her life that she would consider bad decisions. After all, you can't learn if you don't make mistakes. The problem is when you keep making mistakes and you don't plan on changing things and they start to affect other people. In this case Marie.

Marie would like to note that her next actions were taken after the accumulation of several years of "this shit".
