My Pups Shield Me

CH. 13

Pulling into the pet store parking lot Marie shut off the engine before taking a moment to think. "What's wrong?" Jess asked. "What are we gonna do with the pups? I am not leaving them in the car!" Marie might not have woken up today planning to get a new pet...pets but they were hers now and she would take care of them as they deserved. "Woah ok calm down! How about this you're gonna need leashes for them anyway, so why don't I run in and buy three and then come back and we can take'em in with us?" Jess offered to hope to appease her little sis. She was surprised by how protective Marie became over the three pups already. "Uh yeah ok. Do you need money?" Marie asked softly realizing she may have overreacted just a bit. Jess chuckled. "No lil sis. I think I'm good. Be back in a sec!" She shouted before hopping out the car and making her way into the building. 

Marie decided to take this time to get better acquainted with the three pups. Turning around in her seat she looked into all three crates the check-in on the pups. "Hey, boys! Aunty J is running in to get y'all some leashes and then we can all head into the store together. Now you boys have to be good in there ok? No barking too loud or growling. If you behave I'll get you a special treat when we get to the register!" Marie bargained. She has no idea how this little shopping trip is going to go with the pups. She knows from the adoption staff that two of the pup (Roman and Seth) are usually well behaved and fairly energetic. But she also knows that the third pup (Dean) was known to not get along well with the other pups and sometimes even the staff. Hear what their new owner said about treats, all three of the pups shot to attention. Wagging their tails at the prospect of getting a treat, neither of the pups noticed Jess returning until her door was swung open. "Ok. I got the leashes and look at how cute they are!" Jess gushed excitedly. "So this one is for Seth." She stated holding out a bright red leash with little black stars printed all on it. "This one is for Roman." She passed a dark blue leash with little doggy bones on it to Marie. "And this one is for Dean!" Jess finished as she gave the last leash to Marie as well. This one was black with muddy dog prints on it. "They're cute right!?" Jess clapped her hands excitedly. Marie chuckled at her sister's enthusiasm. "Sure, Jess. Let's get'em leashed and then we can head in." Marie stated as she got out of the car and brought the three leashes with her to the back seat. She quickly opens the back door before opening the crates one at a time and putting the lease on each pup before she moves onto the next one. "Can I walk one? Oh, can I please!?" Jess hopped up and down while asking. "Sure. As long as you stop doing...whatever that is." Marie stated as she passed Seth's leash to Jess. Jess let out an excited "YES!" before jogging ahead into the store. Looking down at the two pups at her feet Marie sighed. "Whelp let's go, boys!" She stated before making her way into the store at a normal pace.
