My Pups Shield Me

CH. 15

Jess had been standing in the toy aisle for the past 10 minutes letting Seth pull toys off the shelf and try them out before picking a few of his favorites. She had just picked up his last choice when she got a text. Quickly checking her phone she realized it was from Marie and texted back saying they were there now. "Come on Sethie! Let's clean up this mess before your momma sees!" She quickly ran up and down the aisle picking up the mess of toys the two of them left on the floor from earlier. Just as she was picking up the last few she saw Marie round the corner and enter the aisle. "You made a mess didn't you?" Was the first thing she said as she made her way to Jess. "No!" Jess shouted in false outrage. "Yes!" Replied a store assistant who had watched her make the mess and then rush to clean it. Jess gasped while placing her hand over her heart dramatically. "I thought we had something special Eric!?" She asked the assistant. To his credit, he played along. "If what we had was really special then you would have known my name is Mike, not Eric!" He just as dramatically replied. Before marching away to go help other customers. Marie and the pups were left standing in the aisle staring at where Mike went before slowly turning to stare at Jess. "What is wrong with you?" Marie asked in slight disgust. Jess just huffed before she began pouting. "Shut up."

"Well, now that is over. Pick out some toys boys!" Marie picked up a few toys to hold out to Roman and Dean to sniff and look at. While Roman went to town on finding the toys he wanted Dean made his way over to another shelf where he saw something pushed all the way in the back. It caught his eye because it wasn't animal or food shaped. He slowly moved closer before reaching out to grab it. When he realized he couldn't reach it he gave a slight growl of annoyance before trying again. While he was trying to reach it, Marie had heard his growl and noticed him reaching for something. She made her way over before crouching down beside him to try and get a look at what he was doing. "What's up Deano?" She asked as she placed a calming hand on his back as she realized how frustrated he was. Dean quickly backed out of the shelf and moved out of the way for her to see. She leaned down and looked towards the back of the shelf before she spotted what was upsetting her pup so much. She reached her hand back as far as it could go and was just barely able to grab it before pulling it out. As soon as she did Dean quickly hopped up and snatched it out of her hands before laying on the floor and chewing on it. Marie was just barely able to catch a glimpse of what the toy was. It was a...Plant? "Is that what you wanted so badly bud?" She asked, surprised. "Well alright. If that's what makes you happy." She stated as they both got up and headed back over to the others. She saw that Seth had the most toys while Roman had three and Dean, of course, had his plant plushy. "Now that that is settled let's go find you boy's some dog beds," Marie stated as she and Jess lead them to the next aisle. "And why are you getting them dog beds exactly?" Jess asked. Marie gave her a weird look. "Uh...Because they'll need somewhere to sleep." She replied with an obvious tone of voice. Jess chuckled. "Well, that's gonna be a waste of money! I give it less than one night and you'll already have them snuggled into bed with you!" "What? No, I won't! That's what the beds are for!" "Yeah, sure whatever you say sis," Jess replied, shaking her head in denial. "Whatever." Marie huffed as she let the pups pick out what beds they wanted.

Twenty minutes later Marie, Jess, and the pups were finally seen leaving the store carrying several bags. Dean even got to hold a bag, although it only had his plant plushy in it. He happily carried it to the car and into his crate where Marie took it out of the bag to let him have on the way home. All that was heard on the way back was the radio playing and Dean chewing on his new plushy.
