My Pups Shield Me

CH. 18

Jess had already left for the night by the time Marie finished putting the dishes in the dishwasher. The day had been a long one and Marie was ready for bed. "Alright, boys. It's bedtime. Your beds are all set up and ready so you can go lay down and sleep when you're ready but don't stay up too late ok?" She asked as she started making her way to her own room. As she was passing the living room she paused for a second. What if they don't like sleeping in the dark. Should I leave the stove light on. Oh, wait I do that anyways...What about the tv? I can put it on the cartoon channel and turn the volume down a bit. With those final thoughts, she walked over to turn the tv on and change it to the cartoon channel. "Oh look boys! It's Looney Tunes!" She ended up standing there watching the tv for a good five minutes before she realized she was doing so. "Yeah ok...Time for bed Marie. Night my handsome pups!" She leaned down to give them all ear scratches before once again heading off to her bedroom before closing the door and crawling into bed.

Just as she was starting to go to sleep she heard a low whining sound. She waited a few seconds before turning over and tried to go back to sleep. That is until she heard the whining noise again and this time louder and right outside of her door. Slowly getting out of bed, she tiptoed to the door before peeking under the door crack. She saw two furry pup paws tapping up and down. Letting out a little giggle at the cute sight she cracked open the door to see Seth sitting there. "Hey boy. What are you doing? It's bedtime. Mommy needs sleep and so do you." She stated as she rubbed his head. Seth just pushed his way past her before crawling into her bed. Marie quickly turned around, "Woah woah woah. No! No sleeping in bed with mommy. You'll be proving Jess right and I refuse to let that happen! Down. Come on, get down now." She stated sternly pointing her finger to the floor. Seth just sat there with the saddest cutest puppy dog eyes she had ever seen. "Hey! No, no, no. That's so not playing fair!" She stated as she saw him. By this point, both Roman and Dean had heard the one-sided argument and came to discover what was going on. As they saw Seth sitting comfy in the bed Roman took the plunge and pushed his way past to also hop on the bed and give puppy eyes at her. Dean just stood at the doorway waiting to see what would happen. She seemed mad or at least a bit upset. He wondered if this is what was gonna set her off. He kept looking back and forth between the two on the bed and Marie. She saw this and just knew he must be thinking she was gonna punish them for it. It broke her heart to see him still so on guard. She sighed before giving in, "Alright come on. You too Deano! It's bedtime." She stated as she pushed the other two over before crawling into the middle of the bed. Dean hesitated before slowly walking over and jumping onto the end of the bed. He wanted to be able to make a quick escape if she changed her mind. Just as she was beginning to once again go back to sleep she remembered that she left the door open. "Dammit!" She got up to go close the door but as she did Dean opened one eye and lifted his head to growl a little. Slowly turning around she asked, "You don't want me to shut the door?" As she began to close it again he repeated his actions. Getting the hint after making sure she understood, she opened the door once again. "OK Deano, whatever makes my pups comfortable." She stated as she crawled back into her spot on the bed and gave him an ear scratch before finally laying down to sleep.

That night both Marie and the pups slept the best they had in a long time. The pups felt safe and comfortable laying with their new mommy as well as knowing that they could better protect her should anything happen during the night. As for Marie, she was annoyed that Jess would rub this in her face the moment she found out, but she was also happy to have her pups with her while she slept. Not to mention that they gave off the best warmth too! She knew it would take a bit longer for Dean to get fully comfortable with her and being in a new place. She just hoped that one day he would trust her enough to sleep closer than the foot of the bed.

*Sorry it's taken so long to update. I've been trying to get all the paperwork and such ready so that I can apply for a Masters program for this fall. I need to get everything ready and turned in soon so I can meet application deadlines and such.
