Not doing enough

"Draco" I whispered as I stood up from the couch in the common room at night. I'd been waiting for him for hours. However, he held his hand up in the air, causing me to stop.

"Not now, (y/n)." He murmured and walked up to his dorm while I stood there, dumbfounded and upset.

------

"Why don't you eat?" I turned my head to him and saw his chin placed on his palm. He moved his hand down and shrugged. "Eat, please." I said softly, placing food on his plate.

"(y/n)" he muttered quietly.

"You're concerning me, Draco. You haven't eaten today at all. Do it for me, please."

"(y/n), I don't want to-" He muttered again, eyes not meeting mine, yet I interrupted him quietly.

"For me, please."

"(y/n)"

"I just want you to-"

"(y/n)!" He raised his voice warningly. And this time, he looked me straight in the eyes. His angry and tired ones were looking into my frightened eyes. He stood up and walked out as the near me sitting Slytherin students had their heads turned to me. Their eyes stayed on me until I eventually walked out too.

-------

I walked up to Draco when I saw him walk to the common room at night. "Draco! Haven't seen you all day. Where have you been? I-"

"Can you leave me alone for now, please." He interrupted me as he stopped, an eyebrow raised. I looked at him, taken aback.

"Sure" I muttered and walked the opposite way.

--------
I was on my way to the astronomy tower, walking through the cold hallways after hearing from the girls in the common room, that they had seen Draco on his way up there.

I walked in and saw him sitting on the floor, looking up to the nightsky. I approached him and he turned around, standing up somewhat annoyedly.

In the dark, I could see his tired, yet so shining grey eyes. His hair messy from the wind, eyebags under his eyes, he looked at me exhaustedly, eyes wandering to the floor.

"What do you want?" He asked sternly and I crossed my arms to warm my body in the cold.

"What?" I whispered.

"Why did you come?"

"I wanted to check on you. I hadn't seen you in days and-"

"You know I have a hard time right now."

"Yes, therefore I'm trying to help you." I stated a little louder, feeling hurt because he clearly didn't want me to be there.

"Help me? In what way are you helping me?"

"I'm- I'm just-" I took a breath, standing there frustratedly.

"You're not helping me. You know I need time for me now and all you do is annoy me, (y/n)!"Draco turned his head, looking to the side angrily and back to me.

"I'm doing everything I can." I told him with the tiniest bit of hope in my voice, shaking my head slightly.

"Well, you're not doing enough!" He said rather loudly and I looked at him, pure dejection glimmering in my eyes, tears threatening to escape as my throat caught a lump. I shook my head slightly, looking down at the floor as I avoided Draco's gaze. I turned around, storming out with my arms still crossed, hair flying to the sides as I walk in the cold, and leaving Draco all by himself.

-------

A few days went by, I'd been trailing through the hallways lazily all night, thinking. Just thinking.

Maybe I deserved it.

Everytime I thought about what he said, my vision became blurry due to my eyes welling up, however I never let the teardrops fall.

-------

"(y/n)" I heard one night as I was on my way to the common room. Recognizing the voice, I walked a little faster. "(y/n)" I heard Draco call again.

I tried to avoid him at all costs. He already hurt my feelings enough. I didn't want to talk or listen to him. And so, I avoided him for what felt like forever.

That was until I really couldn't escape him. He had trapped me in the hallway, not allowing me to pass by without listening to him.

"(y/n), please, just listen." He whispered, blocking my way. I tried to hide the tears in my eyes from him by looking down. "(y/n)" he whispered again.

"What?" I said louder than planned. Looking up, I gave him the full view of my horrible looking sleepless face. His face softened.

"I never meant to say that." He whispered, eyebrows furrowed in hope.

I took a few steps back from him.

"I am truly sorry. You don't know how much pressure I had on my chest lately. You don't know how many people's lives were depended on me. You have no clue how awful I've been feeling these days. I just couldn't do anything. I couldn't even talk to you. I don't deserve you. But I never realized I'm making you upset rather than actually making it easier for you."

"You don't understand! Of course I knew, that you've lots of weight on your shoulders, but exactly that's why I've been trying to help you, Draco. However all you did was push me away!"

"I know and I'm so sorry. I-" he didn't know what else to say. So, lips slightly parted, he looked at me, frowning, no hope visible in his eyes "I don't know who I am." He whispered, voice breaking. And I, for some reason, felt entirely guilty for acting so selfish, that I forgot how terrifying he must have it at the moment. "I can't recognize myself anymore either, (y/n). And I know I've done you wrong, therefore I cannot explain how sorry I am. I just- I'm hopeless, (y/n). I don't even know if-"

"No" I whispered, almost crying. I came closer to him. "Don't- don't end your sentence. The war will be over and we'll do it out of all this. Just don't-" I said and hid my face in his suit to muffle my sobs and hide my red nose and teary eyes.
He wrapped his strong arms around me and held me tightly, afraid of letting go.

Afraid of losing me if he did.
