Adam and Eve fell into sin because they ate a forbidden fruit, which was the knowledge of good and evil. (Genesis 2:16,17)
They knew the good side, which is the side that the Lord had presented to them. The serpent (Satan) came and showed the bad side. She convinced the woman to eat the fruit, where she would know the bad side. (Genesis 3:1-6)
Adam and Eve sought knowledge that did not come from the Lord. Today is no different. People look for knowledge to understand the Lord's purpose in our lives, but end up looking in the wrong places with the wrong people. We don't need to experience things the world offers to be happy. When we truly know the Lord, we have no pleasure in the world, for whoever loves the world cannot see God, for He is Spirit. (1 John 2:15; John 4:24)
The only way to be followed is Jesus. That way is the true knowledge of God (John 14:6; Colossians 2:2,3)
