⏤ 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘳
𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐊𝐢𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞, the Dregs all hatch a plan to somehow convince the Sun Summoner to join them back through the Fold to Ketterdam.
To trade her.
To sell her.
Dara did not miss the tension between Inej during their talk, her flinching every time Kaz spoke of Dreseen, every time Jesper spoke of Alina, every time she brought up the fact that this one being could conjure the light of the sun.
Dara also remembers the fact that Inej killed a man. Something her Saints did not allow, she had done and Dara did worry Inej would drive herself mad with the guilt.
Dara knows how it feels to have guilt consume you. For a while, she believed the lies of her father revolving around the death of her mother and brother.
But, Dara did not end their lives, Inej did end this Inferni's life and so Dara would have to be careful around her words for a while.
It is not that she thought Inej was weak, or could not handle the topic, but it was out of sincerity, out of patience. Inej would talk when she is ready, and Dara will stay by her, making sure to be there.
This situation brings a light to Dara, one she did not realize for a while. The Wonderer and Wraith's nights consisted of speaking heavily on topics from the past, heavily on topics in which what were done to them, but Dara now realizes how much of a burden that must have been for Inej.
The Wonderer does not feel the burden, but she did not ask if Inej ever felt as if her stories were too much. She never shut her up, she never told her to stop, Inej did do, in fact, the opposite and told her to stop when she felt as if she needed to stop.
Dara took the words quite literally.
Sighing, the carriage comes to a stop as she then realizes she is still holding Inej's hand. The boys get off, the two girls staying on as Inej looks to her, "are you alright?"
Dara could not help her heart swell with love as Inej is the first to ask.
"I should be asking you," Dara whispers.
"I will be," Inej speaks.
Dara gives her a sad smile, "it's alright if you won't."
Inej tightens Dara's hand, "I'll tell you if it comes to that."
"I'll be here."
Dara steps off the carriage, helping Inej as she suddenly feels waves of love, hugging her immediately as Inej stands holding still, stunned.
"I love you, Inej," Dara whispers, tearing up.
Inej hugs her immediately, "I love you too, Dara. Forever."
