Why now?

"W-why are you here?" I muttered shakily, the entirety of my body was frozen in place, unable to take my eyes away from Kai's. There was something predatory in his golden stare.

"I missed my girl, is that a crime?" Tilting his head to the side and casually dragging his gaze over my body.

I broke out of my daze when I heard the sound of wood creaking from behind. I peered back to see Tomura gripping the side of the bar stool with too much force.

"Don't be rude Mina, come greet me properly," Kai demanded sternly. I could practically hear the teeth grinding in Tomura's mouth.

The last thing I wanted was to be anywhere near him. The thought of his sickly citrus scent repulsed me. I wanted to run to Tomura, to be scooped up in his protective embrace instead.

However, I knew that without my cooperation then the alliance could be jeopardised and the Leagues plans for vengeance for their fallen comrade could be ruined. I had to keep up the facade.

Going against every fibre of my being I took a step forward. There was a tiny voice at the back of my head screaming for me to turn back, to just go to Tomura, but I had to push that voice away and do what was right. My head hung in submission. Kai's white-gloved hands reached out once I was within arms reach and pulled me against his hard chest.

"That's more like it. Now let me see that pretty face I've missed so much," he cooed falsely, gripping my chin and forcing me to look up at him.

Half-lidded, golden honey eyes peered hungrily down at me, the tip of Kai's mask uncomfortably poked into the soft flesh of my cheek.

"You've gained weight," he grimaced, his tone unapologetically blunt.

"U-um..." I didn't know how to respond to his rudely blunt observation. My hands played with the hem of my sweater. I suddenly felt extremely self-conscious.

I knew I put a little bit of weight on but I thought I looked alright...

"Because we feed her here," Tomura growled.

"Mimi looks great!" Himiko shouted out from the other side of the room. Jin nodded in agreement.

"Are you trying to imply that I don't?" Kai directed his question to an outwardly frustrated Tomura—fingers scratching profusely at the nape of his neck. I furrowed my brows at watching him fall back into the unhealthy habit.

"She was practically all skin and bone when she came here, so yeah that is what I'm implying, actually," he spat with utter disdain.

I winced as Kai's hand tensed against my waist before gradually relaxing.

"Hmm, well I guess it isn't all bad." He slowly ran both his hands languidly down either side of my body, stopping when they reached my ass. Squeezing the plump area firmly in his gloved hands. "I could certainly get used to this," he purred smoothly, but all I could focus on was his repulsing touch.

A bar stool suddenly scraped loudly across the floor. My heart stuttered in my chest.

Kai quickly spun me around, my back pressed against his chest. I faced Tomura, who had risen from his seat—breathing heavily under the hand.

"Is there a problem?" Kai asked sceptically.

I looked at Tomura with pleading eyes, internally begging for him to calm down.

He's just trying to get a reaction. Don't let him get to you Toma. You can't let him suspect us.

As if he heard my thoughts, he sat back down, his breathing slowly returning to normal. He returned to itching lightly at the sore patch on his neck again.
