"W-what, how?" My heart hammered inside my chest, watching Himiko frantically run around the room.
"I have no idea, but we need to get out of here and now." She sternly stated, pulling out a large duffel bag from underneath the bed.
I'd never seen her look so determined and serious before. Always the bubbly carefree member of our group. Any chance of a bloodbath usually had her giddy and ecstatic. But now, she seemed so intent and focused. Throwing everything that we owned into this black duffel bag.
"What about the fight? Are you not joining?"
She paused, the intense façade she had been holding up slipped, revealing a glimpse of the incredible amount of fear beneath "No." Her voice frail. "What's the point? All I've ever done is fight and what do I have to show for it? Jin was everything to me, my best friend and now he's dead." Her eyes glistened with fresh tears when she turned to look at me.
"I refuse to let any more people I love be taken from me," she declared woefully.
Another chain of explosions echoed out. It sounded closer this time. The heroes were advancing. The uproar of the approaching battle snapped Himiko and me out of our emotional daze.
"Get dressed. We are leaving," she ordered, the severe front back up in an instant. Himiko turned to rifle around the other bag that she had brought with her.
I scurried up off the bed, swiftly pulling on a pair of charcoal grey maternity sweatpants and Iguchi's pastel blue sweatshirt that he gave to me. The spicy fragrance embedded into the fabric reminded me that we couldn't leave just yet.
"What about the others?" I questioned. "We can't just leave them behind," I remarked, watching Himiko continue to hurriedly search through her bag. Unsure of what she was so eager to find.
"They're big boys, Mina. They can handle themselves." She pulled out numerous blades, tucking them into the waistband of her skirt.
She had a point. Dabi and Iguchi had got this far, I'm sure they would get through this time too.
"Besides, Iguchi is already working on getting us a ride out of here, so we'll see him soon," she said, putting my mind at ease.
"And Tomura?" I asked hesitantly, my fingers fumbling anxiously on the inside hem of my sleeve. I found it concerning how she had avoided mentioning the one person who mattered the most to me. "I'm not going without him, Himiko."
We made a promise to one another that we wouldn't be apart again, and even if he had been asleep these past two weeks. At least I had the peace of mind knowing he was in the same building. Only a few walls separating us.
Himiko sighed and made her way over to me, a penitent expression on her face.
"The heroes are here for him. It's him they want and they won't stop till they have him." She placed her hand on my shoulder.
"What are you trying to say?" I muttered.
Her brows furrowed as she tried to find the right words to say, my heart beating faster with every waiting second.
"You know more than anyone that he wouldn't want to put you in any danger. He'll want you far away from it."
She couldn't really think I was going to abandon him.
"Himiko, I won't leave him."
"Mina, please don't make this more difficult than it needs to be. You need to think what's best for you and the baby." Brows knitted together in aggravation.
"I will not raise my child without their father. They need him. I need him!" I ripped her hand away from my shoulder, tears of anger bubbled up into the corners of my eyes.
