When the two teenagers stepped out of the Slytherin common room, they started making their way out of the dungeons when Regulus suddenly asked, "By the way, how's Brett dealing with the defeat?"
"Jacob's really sad and angry. He's such a competitor that he's got a hard time accepting that."
"It will pass I guess."
"Yes, usually Jacob doesn't stay mad for so long... just like my sister actually..." Adena's voice turned upset as she muttered this, but she tried to keep a straight face.
"You still haven't heard from her I suppose."
"No, it's been one month. She has never stayed mad for so long. She must have been really disappointed," she sighed while saying this.
"Maybe. She would be dumb if she'd stay mad forever, so I guess this is just a question of time."
"Hmm, you must be right."
After that they continued talking for the remaining time of their patrolling. It had become a habit, Adena would have never thought she would be so used to hanging out with someone she barely knew five months ago. How they got so close was still a mystery for her, their relationship had an odd side she couldn't figure out, but it was entertaining to see how they would grow more and more close by each day. She wondered many times if he questioned himself about the same thing, regarding that unique, indescribable link they shared.
A week had passed since that day. Jacob's mood had completely changed. After two days of feeling gloomy he finally started smiling and joking around, quickly becoming his usual self again. It felt really good for the others. A depressed Jacob was more unbearable than an over-excited Jacob.
During breakfast, when only Adena, Noah, Isaac and Jacob remained , the blonde boy started discussing about Millie's upcoming birthday.
"Did you find presents for Millie?" Everyone said 'no' and he sighed.
"We absolutely have to find something."
"She's open, I bet she'd like anything even if it's rubbish."
"We could maybe find her one of that Muggle stuff she likes but I don't know where to find any and it's a bit late."
"We'll get something this afternoon."
"Have Eugenia and Jade found something?" said Noah curiously.
"Jade did during the holidays. She's always one step ahead."
"Oh, they're coming! Act normal!"
"And that's how I got my hair so soft," said Jacob, making the three others glare at him for his choice of conversation.
"What are you talking about?" asked Eugenia as she sat at Adena's side.
"My good looks," answered Jacob, a smug look on his face.
"Because you got them invisible?" said Jade with a bored look as the others laugh.
"I look better than you, anyway."
"Are you kidding me? My dark skin is the most glowing and smooth skin you'll ever seen. You're the ugly rat here."
"Stay blind, girl, hm."
"Anyway, everyone's coming to Hogsmeade today?" asked Millie.
"Of course, it'll be fun," said Isaac, and the others all agreed.
When the time of departure came, Adena grabbed Noah's wrist, whispering in his ear, "Let's go find something for Millie in a clothes shop, 'kay?" And the boy nodded.
