After some more days of thinking a little and still no news from Regulus, Adena decided to visit her boyfriend. The days were becoming too long, and she was getting more worried. He was supposed to give her news and it has been way too long. He would never wait that long, usually he would not wait more than a week to give a few news when he knew how worried she could get. And so, after getting ready, she left.
It was the late afternoon, and maybe the evening already, she wasn't sure. Regulus' room was mostly dark when she arrived in, except for the usual rays of daylight through the curtains and the lit lamp at his desk, desk where he was sitting at, in a corner of the bedroom. She had apparated there after checking up on Kreacher.
"Oh, Adena?" asked the boy surprised, looking up from whatever he was doing at the moment. The sight of him shocked Adena. He was pale, his usually beautiful hair was a complete mess and he had dark bags under his eyes. Maybe his cheeks had become a little hollowed as well. He just looked so different.
"How are you?" she asked softly, getting closer to him.
"Hm," was his only answer as he went back to writing.
Upon arriving close enough, she bent a little over his shoulder to get a look at what he was doing. She could only distinguish notes scribbled roughly on pieces of parchments, far from his usual neat handwriting, as well as tons of books that seem to be related to the Dark Arts. It looked like he wasn't acknowledging her presence, only writing and writing again.
"I've been waiting for you, you know..."
He hummed again.
"But you didn't write me anything."
And once again, he looked disinterested. And she was getting irritated, not understanding his strange behavior. He wouldn't even look at her.
"And what have you been doing?"
"Working," simply replied Regulus.
"Working? On what?" asked Adena, confused.
"It's personal. Something that doesn't concern you," he answered curtly.
"Uh? Is this some Death Eater stuff?" she asked, more impatiently this time.
"No, it's not," hissed Regulus.
"What are you hiding? And what's with this behavior?" Her voice got louder as she talked, without realizing it.
"Well, I've been stressed lately," sighed the boy, getting irritated as well.
"How can I know? You've not been giving any news in almost a month!"
"I'm sorry, I had other things to focus on!" he said shouting at her, and finally turning his head to look at her.
She widened her eyes in surprise. That was the first time that Regulus was shouting at her. She quickly regained her composure and answered, "Like what? Tell me!"
"I can't tell you!"
She stayed quiet after that, just glaring at her boyfriend. He glared back. They were both angered. And she started talking again after a while.
"Tell me. I want to know what's going on with you."
"I have things to do," answered the boy.
"Well, explain me!" she shouted again.
"I can't! I'm working on something, I have something to do. And I can't tell you!"
"But why would you do that?"
"I decided to do it! Only I can do it!"
She looked at him confused then said harshly, "I deserve an explanation."
